I pretty much convinced my GF to get rid of digital cable and go with something else. So first I attempted to get Dish Network's ALL HD package installed, that fell through since the dish could not be installed in my apt because it had to face the complete opposite direction. So now my next option is to get a Mac Mini with an Elgato TV Hybrid attached to it and keep just extended basic and return everything else. 1 Regular box and an HD Dvr box.

I have a question for anyone on here that might have a similar setup. I already have an ATV and I love it, it's great and works just as advertised. So the question is. Would it be easy to setup the Elgato software to save the DVR'd stuff so that I can watch it from my ATV also without too much hassle? I already know how to setup my iTunes on my iMac so that it's connected to the mini. I just need to know how I can get the DVR'd stuff from the Mini to play on the ATV that's going to be in the bedroom.

Gotta keep in mind that my girl is not exactly a techie so when I am not here to walk her through it, has to be that easy to do or even automated basically.

Also does the Elgato TV Hybrid pick up "local" HD channels through the Cable connection I know that it has a QAM tuner, and my Sharp TV also does and it picks up those channels.

The EyeTV 3 software has the ability to automatically transcode the broadcast (MPEG-2 OTA in the US) to H.264 for the ATV. After that, it's just a matter of sync'ing or streaming. Easy.

I am not happy with the color of the integrated conversion tool (which I believe is just the quicktime tools). I compared it to a conversion I did manually with Handbrake and the hb one killed the eyeTV one in color. Just FYI...

You can schedule a recording fairly easy. Either by sitting at the computer and searching for a show or by using a remote and the schedule guide.

It can also automatically record and export to AppleTV/iTunes. However, if it this is done automatically, you can not edit out commercials.
