you're gonna have to really justify the .8lb of lightness of the air to pay equal or more as the 14. the mba is a tier lower in apple's hierarchy, screen uniformity is a guaranteed issue on the mba, despite "some" claim they have a perfect screen on here, no one has come forth to back it up with actual evidence.

You advocate for the 14-inch MBP over the MBA all the time. You are obviously very happy with yours. I'm genuinely curious:
1) Why do you think everybody should make the same purchasing decision as you?
2) Can you think of ANY situation where you would recommend the MBA over the 14-inch MBP?

BTW - I think my MBA screen is perfect FOR ME. I know full well that if I were to post pictures, you'd find a flaw. I use a 16-inch M1 Pro MBP for work, and I can see the difference, but again, the MBA screen is perfect FOR ME.

Not everyone needs a MacBook Pro, the name is in the title PRO! The Air is for the average consumer. It’s a simple as that.

1) i advocate the 14 mbp over the mba if the price is relatively close if not equal.
2) yeah, go read what you just quoted me on, if you really value that .8lb of weight saving.

great, but is the guy asking which one have the same preference as you?

My advice is always to get your hands on a MacBook Pro M2 14"/16" and test it out and pick it up. See how it feels. Check out the things you value most.

Then do the same thing with the M2 MBA. All of our personal opinions are meaningless because we all value different things and our use cases are different.

There is no one size fits all answer. It is more nuanced than that. There are intangible difference between the air and pro and the only way to know what will work best is personal experience.

Cost, specs, etc just will never tell the whole story. The M2 MBA is a game changer on the sense that you have a lot of power in a fan less laptop that is extremely portable. For most users it is more than enough.

That being said there are some people that need a Pro level device or may need a port not offered on the air or value the mini led screen or something else.

There is no better Mac beyond what is best for each individual. They are all great depending on one's needs. It is great that we have choice.

Personally I really wish the Pro models would offer more color choices than silver or Space Grey but they are just as amazing as the air's are and I am so glad Apple finally made a Pro laptop worthy of the name.

i agree, it depends on their needs. they can spend the 80 bucks and get the pro if they want a better bang for their buck.
Apple has never been a value proposition or bang for their buck option.

Apple buyers tend to be average users who just want something simple. They keep their devices a long time and value design and portability over function.

Of course there are sales on all Mac's now from air's to Pro to Mini. So your $80 comparison is probably not accurate.

If value is truly a concern then the M2 Mac Mini is the king.

I love different opinions when the different opinions have multiple perspectives that I have not considered before.

Personally I do get tired of the same opinion repeated over and over again.

But we should all be free to express our opinions no matter what they may be.

Have a great day!

But at least we know that only a MBP is a better value. Thanks for that ground breaking revelation and input that is dynamic based on users needs.
i didn't come up with the 80 bucks comparison the guy who originally asked which one stated the mba and the mbp was 80 bucks difference.

Oh my apologies then.

It just seems sometimes a lot of people, of course I am not personally talking about you, seem to bring up cost comparisons to justify the value of a particular device that they prefer even though cost is not always the determining value for the end user.

In fact, a lot of times the value in terms of cost might be secondary or tertiary consideration. Specially for Mac users.

Since many Mac owners tend to keep their devices longer they will amortize the cost over years of ownership to justify spending more.

Thanks for letting me know and I hope you have a great day 😀.

Then perhaps the name should be "MacBook Average". And it can still be abbreviated MBA.

How about just MacBook with different configs at different costs. I am sure people will still being able to figure out what they need.

Why do we even need air or Pro in the naming?

Had a 14" M1 Pro 1tb last year and sold it like 6 months later, it was overkill for me as I didn't utilize it often enough to its full potential. I just picked up an Open Box MacBook Air M2 512GB for $1100, which was half the cost that I originally paid for the 14" pro I had last year. So far so good for my needs.

That’s a good price, exactly how much I got the mba for my wife for.

You scored on the open box.

What color did you get?

I had a similar experience to you except after a pre order on the 14" I ended up with the 16" and sold it for the M2 MBA.

pro is just a apple tag for more features, doesn't mean you have to be a pro to own one, 14 pro, 11" pro etc
Of course you don’t have to be a pro to own one. Apple markets the MacBook Pro towards professionals, most people are not going to spend over £2,000 for a 14” laptop. The MacBook Air on the other hand is aimed more towards the general consumer.

Myself for example, I use a 2018 MacBook Pro 13” however I want to upgrade to an Apple M chip MacBook soon. I don’t really need the power of the Pro anymore, but I do want a bigger display, that’s why I’m waiting for the 15” MacBook Air.

I have both the 13" M2 Air and a 14" M1 MBP. I need the Pro for music production, but I use the M2 Air for work. Despite the extra power of the MBP, its Mini-Led screen, Promotion etc, I actually enjoy using the M2 Air day-to-day much more 🤷🏻‍♂️. I'd go so far as to say it's the best MacBook I've owned.

am like you; i live on my M2 air, and do logic/final cut on my m2 pro mini.

doing basic stuff (email, web, notes, etc), plus some rapidweaver & affinity photo... the air is awesome. no weirdness, glitches. hasn't gotten hot, screen is great, and... the weight is negligible. i throw it in a sleeve, into my backpack, and am off. and i can work all day without plugging in to power.

this is my best mac laptop ever (there, i dared to call it a 'laptop' 🤣); and i've owned many macbooks & powebooks...

I got the Midnight color but instantly put it in a case because of the crazy fingerprints/greasiness. I had Best Buy get as close to possible on another Open Box Excellent from a location 30 miles away that was $1095 but in Space Gray. I was seeing the 14" M1Pro 512GB for like $1485 but no-one would budge on negotiating the price down further.

I rather think it should be renamed to MacBook Admirable, ie., MBA.
I got an 8/8/16GB/1TB Space Grey model, after using Macs, and Macs only, for over 20 years working as a translator for a design house and then freelance at home. The Macs I have used ranged from old G3s & G4s - The tower models up through the Mac Pro 2010 and MBPs in a variety of models. After all of that experience, I can say simply that the M2 MBA is by far the best Mac I have ever used, bar none. In no way is it "Average". The MacBook Pro 14" may be excellent too, and if you don't mind the slightly heavier aspect, good for you. This light "Monster" is sufficient, no, more than sufficient!
