With a 2 week shipping window it seems odd that the first day would be a Friday. We all know if we don't get it Friday it's a 2 day wait until we can get our hopes up again. Why not start the 2 week window on a Monday where we have the whole week to be hopeful of delivery? Point being is this weekend is going to suck if I don't get a Friday delivery I know it's immature but I don't care Apple products do that to you.

Apple preorders always come out on a Friday - has been the case with iPhones and iPads since forever. Maybe because it gives them a full five days to ship without a weekend getting in the way?

It's traditionally so the stores can be packed all weekend. It's a move that prioritizes mall shoppers over home deliveries. It works well for things like the iPhone.

Except, oops, the Apple Watch isn't in stores.

Did they think it would be when the set the date but then things changed? Or did they know it wouldn't be in stores but stuck with Friday for tradition's sake? I don't know, but I think it's one of those two options.

Other than the 'that's when they always do it' there's another really good reason: the distribution channel itself. Launch on a Friday gives you a full week before hand to ship units around the country and time it so they arrive in distribution points the night before. Launch on a Monday and you've got a weekend in the way. While I'm sure logistics companies still run services at the weekend I'd imagine there isn't the workforce available that there is in the week (at least not without serious overtime rates).

Bumping my own thread because it appears only a very small fraction of customers will be receiving on Friday while the majority sits the weekend out. If they knew stock was this tight let the deliveries trickle out throughout the week not start on Friday and piss a lot of the no watch for you on launch day even though you placed order at 3:03 people. Terrible launch as Apple you have to find a way to at least satisfy those who had a order in by 3 @&$" minutes!
