I love the size of the Apple Watch ultra, but I can’t help but think Apple missed a major opportunity to really make the Watch unique. The watch faces are just larger versions of the old watch faces, and none of the new watch faces make much use of the additional space. The proposition of the old watch faces look a little weird being blown up in this way.

Anyone else agree with me?

My only thought is that we should have gotten one or two more Ultra-exclusive faces. Some sort of “Modular” style Wayfinder face comes to mind.

I completely agree after 3 days of usage. Trying to not make a decision during the honeymoon period (where you just love the gadget because it’s new) haha!

Not sure. I’m assuming Apple will make the bezels smaller eventually and use all that real estate.

Watch faces are not the strongest thing with any AW. They are all mediocre. I just do not understand Apple’s stubbornness in not allowing 3rd party watch faces. It would make costumers and developers extremely happy but they think that by controlling it they are achieving some kind of exclusive experience while experience would be tenfold if they allowed 3rd party watchfaces. For example some of the complication fonts are so tiny that they are really difficult to read.

I am coming from a 3 that I wore for 5 years! Every face seems new and delightful to me and I cannot get enough. In fact the wayfinder is one I do not understand - it seems too complicated. I am particularly liking the metropolitan and California. I have closed my rings both days since I got the watch, loved going out for a run without the phone and being able to stream music. My 3 was getting really long in the tooth and I had given up on the cellular connection with it.

Apple Watch faces have alway been pretty blah honestly.

1) All of the them should have 4-6 complication spots. Enough of the “exclusive artist crap”. They are all dumb to the point I’m trying to figure out how some of them actually got included. One of them looks like some old lady’s face. I mean really? The face they created for the S7 can only have 2 complications. Come on.

2) Apples product design is second to none. There could be a lot more thought put into apple branded watch faces. Look at what people have done in facet and Clockology. Some of them are brilliant.

3) They need a blank face offered with 6 complications on a couple of grid choices, and the ability to put an image behind it. It wouldn’t take much to have one watch face that is highly customizable. At this point there is not excuse for it.

4) The wayfinder face is pretty good, I still they they could put more effort into it. Clockology faces look like real watches. Why not? Why can’t they do this. Again why can’t the wayfinder look like a legit divers or chronograph face?

I kind of agree OP but this isn’t a new thing. I didn’t expect the ultra to have an mindblowing new faces. Personally I think 99% of the native faces are total garbage but that’s always been the case.

101% correct. Apple thinks they are cool and exclusive when 90% of watchfaces are truly Ultra horrendous and pointless. While hardware design is perfection for all their devices software is not the strongest. Like now we have 3 different kind of widgets on iPhone. Some update after a couple of minutes while others never seem to update (looking at you lock screen widget). Very inconsistent and I know it is for battery saving but for example they don’t guarantee the time of homescreen widget update but say system will update whenever it chooses so.

Same. I’m really into the whole vibe AWU does for me. But I can be easily swayed by novelty, so I’m checking it out for the next few days to get past that. The traditional series 8 might look familiar to me, and lack that scintillating edge the Ultra has, but it unfailingly looks sharp. We’ll see!

You know there are 3rd party watch faces. NOw right? 1000s

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you expect when you bought it?
I bought it for battery life. I like the watch, but it seems like apple just phoned it in when designing the software for the watch. It’s a bit shameful really.

When size increased 1-2mm new faces were made. However when a change of 4mm is made it’s virtually crickets in the design department.

There have been 1 or 2 new faces for new watches in the past, and then some releases in between. Don’t know what you were expecting… my opinion why the bezels are as larger as they are - 100m water resistance, gotta hold that glass in place securely. I guess a tear down will show more

No, there are not. Those are just photos cropped for AW size that you can do yourself on the internet.

They allow third party faces. They have the Hermes version lol. I have it. I actually really like the watch faces and you can actually pic the color black on it.

I agree about the watch faces. They all remind me of Disney design for some reason, a little too rounded on the edges and no attitude or weight.

As I said above, the Ultra is rated for 40m depth for diving, if there were no or minimal bezels, how do you achieve that?

What does depth rating have to do with screen not extending to the edge of the bezel? Maybe it would be harder or more expensive to achieve but I don’t think sealing the watch against water has anything to do with screen not going all the way.

Yeah, only Hermes and Nike but no small 3rd party developers allowed. Just look at Garmin and Samsung Watch stores. A lot of crappy ones but some brilliantly designed ones. This would get more people excited and they would spend some money and developers would get more excited and in the end it would sell more watches. I think.

The glass/display is flat and inside the Ti frame - how do you think it is attached to the frame? What is the pressure at 40m depth? Let’s wait for the tear down pics…
