This morning when booting up my MBP with Big Sur, I received a message supposedly from Apple that there was a problem with my operating system and asked if I wanted to report it to Apple. Normally I skip these messages (had them before) but this time I was in a hurry and clicked send a report.

From there, my system booted in normally. Now I'm wondering if I may have been scammed and have allowed someone in Nigera or elsewhere to access my system? Just to be safe(r), I changed my log-on password.

Intel or M1 would make a difference in terms of viruses, there are very few regardless but more likely to have one on Intel. Your sig nor post state any info on CPU. It's unlikely to be a virus though, these messages are typical of macOS and have been part of the OS for a very long time. It's possible a background application or process crashed and generated the bug report prompt. Big Slur tended to do this on my 2020 iMac before I wiped it, so perhaps something is broken somewhere.

This was probably a kernel panic. Means, your machine crashed and rebooted. Big Sur is a crashy mess anyway. Especially if you use external devices or monitors. So, expect to see more of those.

If that happens next time, you can also click on "Show Details" and post the stacktrace here. Sometimes the error report gives a hint what causes those crashes.

Ideally, an OS shouldn't crash under normal circumstances. But macOS crashes as often as older Windows versions did that everyone mocked about.

Do you even use Windows or just hate for the sake of hate?

I use both windows and macOS on a regular basis. And for me, Windows is faster, more stable, and also "just works" when it comes to periphereals and also a lot of software. Also: In terms of solving problems, you have way more options than to wait for Apple to fix it (whenever that is).

If you get your Windows experience from a 300$ Acer crap machine, then this is not really a fair comparison to 1000$+ Mac.
