The iPad Pro 12.9 has been out for 6 months now, and the 9.7 model shares the same processor and overal technology, despite true tone and more colors, it's pretty much the same hardware.

Any chance of a new iPad with an A10X and 3D Touch by the end of the year?

Unless Apple wants to repeat what it did in 2012 by releasing iPad-3 and iPad-4 the same year. I dont see a 9.7" Pro next version coming this year, maybe there is a chance with 12.9" iPad Pro

Impossible until the A10 launches on the iPhone 7 and also Apples knows people buy iPads differently that's why they market the Pro as a PC replacement.
Even so, don't imagine any new iPads anytime soon. Apple needs to put value behind their products and you don't when you launch a new product so soon after the previous one.

Besides I bought an Apple iPad Pro for its longevity. Android tablets rarely get any updates.

If Apple resumes its yearly cycle that would mean a 12.9 in November. However, since they are currently off cycle it's anyone's guess. I don't think they'd release another 9.7 by Xmas though--unless they pull more iPad 3/4 shenanigans.

I think the 12.9 is more likely to see some love from Apple, but I highly doubt that the nearly released 9.7 will get updated.

Tbh, I can see apple not updating the 12.9 this year as well. Usage habits of the tablets show people are not willing to upgrade their tablets annually, I think an every other refresh makes sense, but then I don't have an MBA in business. I'm sure much smarter people have vetted out what works best

One key difference between the two iPP sizes....USB 3 support. The wife and I will be migrating from rMBP in the field to iPP 12.9". We can upload our SD cards via USB3 and cull in Photos. If we had to create an image in the field we could use Photos or Snapseed or other app to create the shared image. Then we will wifi AC the keepers to our iDrive One units with 2TB HD. If the images were super important, we could also lock the SD cards and not reuse them during the trip. I would rather spend more on a 27" 5K iMac that I will sit in front of for more hours than an 4K external monitor hooked to a rMBP. Step one....move to iPP for the field work. If that goes OK, then just maybe iMacs for Christmas. Maybe. ;)

I'm thinking next late fall for the Pro updates for both sizes. I'll bite then. (must have pencil with it lol) I am having a hard time with adding $100 more to use a feature.

Maybe a small boost to the 12" pro, with the updates that the 9.7 had and the 12 lacked. I'm hoping for 3D Touch, but I feel like it might be one more year before they integrate that into the iPads. Im also hoping to see if there is any refresh of the mini with any of the "pro" features. Its a long way to fall, so we will find out then!

It's really anyone's guess. On one hand, I can see Apple updating it for true tone and improved cameras, but on the other hand, these seem like minor upgrades and might just anger earlier adopters.

If the Pro models are picking up steam as far as sales (I have this strange feeling that they actually are), I would not be surprised to see them stand pat on iPad Pro this year. These things are going to be more Mac-like going forward as far as release and upgrade cycles.
