Any app that nags me for a rating gets one - a single star for nagging me!

As a developer, I resent this mentality.
There are so many apps competing to be the best, and if you have the best, the only way for others to know it is for people to actually rate and review the app to inform potential buyers.

I mean, it's fair to be upset whenever it throws notifications to rate at you all the time but if it is once or twice, I don't see it as a big deal, especially if the app is an application that you use and enjoy. It takes less than three minutes and helps out a lot - People really only write reviews whenever they are upset about a product and it's hard to motivate people into doing something whenever everything is going perfectly. It's just how people are.

If I really enjoy the app then I will go ahead and rate it after the first few times it annoys me.

9/10 though I don't enjoy the app that much and usually just get annoyed at how frequent it asks me. I don't score it low though. That's just as rude! :p

Somewhat hypocritical - I view ratings of an app before I get it, but I never rate apps.

It is a pain in the arse, that's why. I have to go to the App Store, find the app, and rate it. Or, if it asks me, it takes me to the App Store, wait for it to load, and rate... urgh. Too long.

If the app popped up, and asked me to rate it, and provided a second popup with a star count and a text box, then it'd be fine since I'm not leaving the app, and it can all happen in a matter of seconds.

What developers should do is offer an incentive to rate the app. For example, if its a game, you get a special item or something. If its a productive app, you gain access to a new function. At least that way, both benefit.

Good call, except currently I don't think there's any way for dev's to identify for sure who has left reviews and who hasn't. I could be wrong though, perhaps it's something they could identify at least with the user ID but that could open up a whole new can of worms for devs. I think they want sincerity anyways that's the whole idea.

Well what bothers me is when I get these nags for apps I've already rated-even through the iPhone!

Agreed - is there no way to ascertain that a person has rated the app? It should be so, for one could imagine developers unlocking features for putting in a review. That would be a darn sight better than the nagging.

I like the 1star idea

I didn't buy your app to let you bug me about rating it. I paid you to get the functionality (entertainment, productivity, etc ) of the application.

Push come to shove, rating an app doesn't benefit me at all while it benefits the application developer. You should be paying me for taking my time to rate it.

That said, if I buy an application that I really like or really hate, I'll go out of my way to rate it. However, if I really like that app but it nags me, I get conflicted(like the app, hate the nagging) as to not rate it, even though I'd like to.

All it has to do is have you click the button and then assumes you have done it.

That being said I hate those nagging things no matter what device you are on. I have to deal with it on both Android and iOS. Ask me and one of the choices better be No Thanks which means never bother me again.

Of the Nagging ones. I like "Rate, Remind me later, and No Thanks/Already done"

As for handing it I doing it I find it a lot easier to do on Android but that is more because of how Android OS handles it. By hitting back afterwards it takes me back to the App. iOS just does not have that built in.

Either way I hate the damn nagging. I can understand it and really only pop up one time and I will be ok with it. Bug me until I rate you I can promise you that it will get you rated down big time.

This should be breaching the iOS Developer agreement.
