So something hit me when I read that the TV shows have all been updated on the ITMS; higher res means higher file size.

I did a quick test, downloading the free video in the "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" section. It's 8 mins 44 secs long, and now weighs in at 97.8mb. This works out at 11.2mb per minute. These numbers are correct even after loading onto my 60gb Ipod Video (meaning the iPod doesn't reconvert them in any way).

The only video I've thus far bought from the store was an episode of Viva La Bam. The old, 320x240 video is 21 mins 35 seconds long and weighs in at 103.5mb. This works out at 4.8mb per minute.

Since the new iPod is still restricted to a 320x240 display, surely this means the iPod will be filled up faster with no noticable improvement! Now I see the need for that extra 20gb.

Any thoughts on this would be welcomed :)
