Are almost all widgets "read-only" where I can just see info but to get more info or take action, I have to open the actual app? I have noticed that only one of my widgets, Widget Cal, has a scroll button to let me see more data and change the view within the widget.

Beyond the "show more" button of most widgets, is there additional functionality beyond the obvious without unlocking the phone?

Reminders allows you to check completed tasks, as does Wunderlist. BeWeather allows viewing of other locations you have set up in the app.

Widgets are designed to give you a quick overview, think of them as the desktop gadgets no one used in Windows 7. Any additional functionality is just a bonus.
