That was awesome!
I linked a couple of friends who are SW-home-movie fanatics and they definately want to know details on how you did that, a writeup is a must!

Thanks again for the great work, awesome job.

Did you use the Ryan-W method? It looks kind of like his work, although I havn't seen the pulsating blade before....

actually yes I did. I was in the process of tracking back down that page... though I dont like the way he explains it, makes it seem harder than it is... he is almost a little too detailed I guess.

Very nice job. Very clean.

For those of us who don't have the time (or skill) for AfterEffects, Virtix Arsenal is a great iMovie plugin that can do lightsabers. It is integrated right in iMovie. It's a bit expensive, but it is worth it.

Next step up is EffectsLab DV. This used to be called AlamDV. It's a full fledged FX app that has been years in the making check out http://www.fxhome.com

ps--Here is me and my kids goofing off...

There is another alternative as well to the AE and Virtix - I saw this in my web meanderings...it is called crimson FX and the cost is $0...
http://www.macmerc.com/news/archives/2306 there is a link off the site. I am interested if anyone was able to do this using motion as well - if so do tell. There are also many other tips and tricks to making the star wars type of effects on theforce.net site...

To the 'how did you do that?' list I also would like to be added.

Very sweet that movie is. ;)

Thanks for the link to that free program! It seems really cool, and I'm testing it now. Good stuff!

I used to do lightsaber effects this way a few years back when I had time to do Star Wars movies. In Final Cut Pro, you would just export your clip as an image sequence, bring the frames into Photoshop and paint in the saber, then have QuickTime compile the new images in sequence. I've done it a few times recently...still looks top notch.

That was certifiably awesome man. Better than some of the early movies...;)
