Hello, I have a MacBook Pro. The model number is A1278. I am trying to reboot it, but may have messed up on something. Forgive me as I type this because I don’t know much about this. Once I restarted it and did the whole command+R, I deleted the disk utility? once I did that, I tried to reinstall Mac OS X and it kept popping up saying that “A required download is missing”. I tried the option+command+R (internet recovery) and doing the terminal date change thing, I went to install OS X Lion and was actually able to press continue and agree, then something popped up (I added an attachment) and I wasn’t able to do it. I hope that was understandable. I’m quite confused.
I helped my mom reboot her Mac desktop and before I restarted it and reboot it, I updated something in her systems (I forgot what it was), so her rebooting worked fine. I’m having trouble with mine as maybe I forgot to update my system before rebooting it? Any help is appreciated!

I’m guessing your MacBook Pro is a 2011? Maybe mid 2012? It makes a difference in which operating system they run. Do you have access to another Mac you can use to create install USB?

Yes it’s a 2011 I believe! I also do have access to another Mac and have seen something about connecting it to another Mac to fix this, but I have no clue on how to do that.

OP:

That's either a 2011 or 2012 MBP. Everymac.com says "2012".

Is there any particular reason you need the old "Lion" OS?

Can you try the following?
- Power down, all the way off
- Press the power button
- Immediately hold down "command-OPTION-R"
- You will need to enter your wifi password
- You should now see the "spinning globe" icon (you are booting to INTERNET recovery)
- It will take a little while, be patient.

Can you get to internet recovery?

If you can, you should be able to download and install a later version of the OS that should boot and run your MacBook.

I would suggest either OS 10.12 "Low Sierra"
or
OS 10.14 "Mojave".

Yeah, I’m not sure about the Lion OS. That is just the one that pops up for me? Once I go into internet recovery, that’s the OS that it has me install. Then once I try, that pops up (the picture I have attached). Not too sure what I did wrong.

You can use your other Mac to create an install USB for High Sierra, the latest version natively supported on a 2011.

Thank you. So I will install USB for High Sierra on my other Mac first using a USB flash drive, then use that USB to plug into my laptop? Is that about right?

Hi there, came across your thread and I'm having the problem too. Were you able to resolve it?
