A few months before the 3G was announced,I had a first gen iPhone, which I lost in about twelve feet of snow.
Around a week later, after the snow had melted I got a call saying my iPhone was found.
After I charged it it worked perfectly, data intact, and no internal damage.

Just felt like sharing that.

Nice to know. You are like the 2nd person who I know looses their phone to snow and yet the iPhone still works as day 1.

Kinda puts in perspective Apple's quality on some of these units.

I only loose my iPhone on intruders. I like to wait for them to cross the moat, then I yell to Jeeves: "Loose the iPhones!" I used to use hounds, but whenever I'd loose the hounds they'd keep running, and I'd have to invest in new ones.

"Smithers! Release the iPhones!" :)

I was sitting out on my deck with my iPhone 2G and it slipped out of my pocket, bounced across the deck and between the railing off the edge. The deck is on the 2nd story of the house and it plummeted into the rocks below. I ran down there to get it and it had somehow turned off. I turned it on and there was no damage :)

As long as the temperature remains freezing, there should be no real reason to insure damage. But, if the snow starts melting........
