Just tried to burn a photo onto a disk and found there is not a clear way for me and of course wondered. How do you do it in the simple way I know exists?

If you know it exists, then you would have found it.
If you just want to burn photos, you can use Finder and its Burn Folder feature.
Or you could use Burn.
