Hmm.. I'm not sure if I would like a black menu bar. I think it looks a little to 'Hackintosh' if you know what I mean. I personally like to keep things professional on my Mac, so I go for clean and slick. One thing I would definitely like for Apple to do is fix the translucency on the menu bar, and make it look better. The option doesn't really look good when you tile a picture or something along those lines. That's something I would be happy with.

I find the black menubar (along with black dock) to be very sleek and professional looking. I just had to reinstall the OS, and I actually didn't care for the white (translucent) menubar between that time and when I got back my black bar. Nothing against it, but I find that the dark color makes it get out of the way better, visually. It no longer draws attention.

I have a makeshift black menubar, which looks rather bleached. I would very much like to have the choice of selecting a pure black bar.

Just got Lion and it appears that they did not include a black menubar option. $10 to the first person that successfully finds or creates a way to do it.:p but really i can't stand that grey menu bar. i will keep an eye out and when i find it i will post back here.

sorry to bump an old thread like the other guy but if anyone knows how to mod it to look like the first post, I would appreciate that.

you can, just set the invert menu bar option, and slide the dim when inactive slider all the way to the right. works great, except for fullscreen apps

don't see a "invert menubar option", but maybe you can point it out?

I used to have a black menu bar, followed the directions here.
After upgrading to lion, it reverted to white. I've tried reapplying the hack, but I keep getting the message "The operation can’t be completed because a required item is in use.". ...any ideas?

Bumping this because I was looking at changing the menu bar and have looked at all the options from Nocturne to replacing the original files. I came across this program and have been using it for two months, it's been working great and doesn't keep an icon in the menu bar: Menu Bar Filter

Just thought some of you might like it. It was not easy or obvious to find
