Hello, I am ocd

Not about being tidy with my room, or i need to wash my hands all the time, or keep things clean. Not like i need to turn the light on and off 7 times once per second, no..

I am only ever OCD about my MacBook Pro, specifically how it operates and its settings. Personally I can not deal with brightness being less than full blast. Even if it makes it uncomfortable in darker environments or is killing my battery, I am constantly hitting that stupid button to make sure it's full bright. I have auto screen brightness adjust off, but I just have to always make sure **hits button**

anyways, another thing is that I have to have my desktop exactly how I like it. That is, HD in the top right, and one folder for some things under it. I constantly am hitting right click and clean up. I have to know they are in perfect symmetrical order.

Is there a way to lock your desktop icons on your screen so they don't move? A program perhaps?

If you are OCD with your notebook as well, feel free to let us know how

From the finder, use View>Show View Options (or use command + J) and then select arrange by... kind or whatever... see pict.

I don't even have desktop icons. I don't like anything ruining the view of my wallpaper. Instead I have all my most commonly accessed folders under Places in Finder's sidebar.

or just context click on the desktop or inside a finder window etc.
right mouse

i can't do it though.. (always keep it clean)..
if i'm in the middle of a project, i'll have stuff spread all over the desktop.. maybe in little piles or somehow sectioned off for a little organization (this type of file in this zone.. those over there. etc.)

once a week or upon project completion, i'll go through and clean everything up and put it in the proper place..

I always wipe down my MBP at least once a week. Fingerprints and dust particles are the worst.

The project gallery for Microsoft Office 2008 is a lifesaver - it cleans up your dock nicely.

Also, syncing all of my stuff with my laptop triggers my OCD pretty well, like constantly checking whether everything is really synced.

But I have real OCD, so I guess it makes sense. :p

You've got to be kidding?! A MBP on full brightness in a dark environment is completely unbearable to me. It feels like looking directly into the sun. :p

Seriously. That gives me a major headache unless it needs to be that bright to see well. Whenever I boot win7, it defaults to full bright (which isn't even as bright as OS X will make it) and I can't even look at it if it's dark.

I'm pretty OCD about my mbp.
A few things I always do are:

1. Max screen brightness in fluorescent lights and lowest brightness in the dark.
2. Screen is cleaned after each use.
3. I always check the top and bottom for scratches.
4. I never eat or drink around my baby.

There's probably a lot more.

I follow many of these. I clean it with a clorox wipe (not the screen) once a week, actually keeps it looking pristine.

wow you guys are intense,

I'm more obsessive about the pristine condition of OSX than I am of the machine on the outside,

No icons on the wallpaper, and my custom icons :). my music and documents need to be meticulously maintained and etc.. as for the actual outside of the thing, I'm a university student, the computer get's bashed around as i get off and on the bus, placed on desks, and etc.

The physical upkeep get's in the way of my "learning" lol, Too much time spent making sure my laptops placed in a position that won't be scratched, and not enough time spent reading my notes. Can't handle maintaining a laptop like that for it's whole lifetime, eventually the novelty wears off and i just send it to hell.

Ok, this is going to be either pretty wierd compaired to the other posts or pretty tame, the only two things I do not allow are touching the track pad in the middle so much so that it gets that worn out spot. (Though, I think my cousin said that my particular notebook won't have that problem. The family's old HP had that problem.) Plus absolutely NO drinking arround it. Not even if someone is looking over to see something. That too has happened to our old laptop.

As of right now it looks as good as the day I got it. :) The polycarbonate shell has taken a bit of a "beating" thanks to my sister's possessed Boston Terrier, but I would rather have the policarbonate shell get the brunt than my MBP.

go get some help

Having my operating system in order, as well as the rig looking pristine is something I value greatly.

I paid 2k for this thing. It is by far the most expensive thing in my possession. I am a broke college kid who gets excited about buying fast food or maybe getting a new jacket.

I have a 86 fiero gt for a car that bluebook says is just about the same price as my MBP. so seriously, the most expensive thing I own.

You just pwned that guy lmao. I hope he wasn't serious because if he was he obviously has no clue what he was talking about. Also I am OCD with my MBP, I make sure the brightness is up all the way several times but that doesn't mean I am not a functioning member of society.:p

I don't have any icons on my desktop either.

And my wallpaper is gray. You could say I'm somewhat of a minimalist. :D

Sounds more like it owns you.

OCD is a term that's ridiculously overused on this forum. Once you spend time with someone who truly has OCD you'll feel silly.

OCD is simply defined as "Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce anxiety, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by combinations of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). ..."

As stated in my OP, I am constantly cleaning up my desktop, and making sure my brightness is max, even though I know that nothing has changed, therefore; by definition I am OCD about this.

Good try

Same here... Mine is black leather with steel dock icons. So cool with the aluminum body of my macbook pro...
Feels good to see that I'm not the only one with this OCD!:D

Can you get a screenshot of your setup
(black leather and steel colored icons) to see how it looks, please :p

I wish there was a way to align dashboard widgets to a grid!

Without having a grid picture open underneath, that is..

+1
I hardly ever turn it above one tab. keyboard brightness is always up tho.
