Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a weather app I’ve been building called weat.

There are plenty of weather apps out there, but I struggled to find one that offers deep functionality and high customizability while keeping a clean, clutter-free design. Most feature-packed weather apps tend to get noisy very quickly.

So I built weat to bridge that gap—designed to be as simple or as detailed as you need it to be.

Key features:
  • Multi-Source Data: Choose and switch between global and regional weather agencies to get the data you trust most.
  • Radar & Rain Forecasts: High-resolution precipitation radar and short-term rain predictions.
  • Modular Layouts: Fully customizable main screen so you only see what matters to you.
  • Full Apple Watch Experience: Native watchOS app with rich complications and widgets.
  • Zero Ads / Clean Design: Focused purely on data without visual distractions.

I’m a solo developer and continuously improving it. Hope you enjoy it!

Can I also choose from local weather stations in weat?

The problem I have with the vast majority of iPhone weather apps is that they're aimed at the US market, where the same weather can persist for hundreds of kilometres. I live in Germany, though, which means that "global" weather models—as well as weather stations located several kilometres away from my location—will almost certainly produce the wrong results.

So far, I've been relying on Weather Mate. It looks like a showcase of the worst design decisions from iOS 5 and Windows XP, but it's incredibly accurate. That's because it even lets me choose which specific weather station in my city I want to use.

weat allows you to choose different forecast data sources based on your location.

If you are in Germany, you can select the DWD forecast model (integrated via Google Weather) in the location settings. You can also toggle the interactive weather map to show official DWD radar observation layers.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Pretty well designed. Reminds me a bit of the Zune UI. LOVE the outfit section and the ability to switch weather providers. I think the free version gives you just enough of a taste of what it can do without making it useless, it makes you want more. The decision to blur out the weather maps but still allow you to play with the timeline is genius. I'm pretty happy with Apple Weather overall in the states, even though with Dark Sky integration, it's not quite accurate all the time (what is though?). I would like to see what it's like on the Apple Watch without purchasing it though. I use weather almost exclusively through that; I understand I may be in the minority there.

Just downloaded and subbed for a year. While the price (on sale) is reasonable, I much prefer the 1 time purchase option. If that isn't offered, the chances of me continuing past a year are slim to none. I like the contrast between minimalist look and the detailed information.

Thanks for the great feedback! Really glad you liked the UI and the map timeline concept.

You're definitely not in the minority—using weather apps almost exclusively on the Watch makes total sense, especially for quick glances. Appreciate you sharing that perspective, and I'll keep it in mind for how I showcase the watch experience!

Thank you so much for downloading and subscribing for the year! I'm really glad you like the contrast between the minimalist look and the detailed information.

I completely understand where you're coming from regarding one-time purchases versus subscriptions. Because weather data and server APIs have ongoing operational costs, a subscription model is currently necessary to keep the app running sustainably—but I really appreciate the honest feedback, and I'll keep it in mind as I evaluate pricing options in the future.

Thanks again for the support, and I hope you enjoy using the app!

Quick update for everyone!

I just released a new update for weat that adds support for additional weather agencies and forecast models—including official DWD sources!

You can now select these new model options directly in the location settings.

Thanks to everyone here for the great feedback and suggestions. As always, feel free to share your thoughts or reach out if you have any questions!

I just purchased the annual license. It would be nice to allow Family Sharing. My wife is also big on weather apps ;-)

Thanks for subscribing! It really means a lot that you and your wife both like the app.
You can switch to the Family Plan anytime under your Apple ID Subscription Settings.🙂

It is great to see competition in the weather app category. I've added your app to a few of my (weather) collections on the AppRaven community just now as I wasn't aware earlier that it existed eventhough it apparently has been in the App Store since at least 2025.

Currently subscribed to another service but definitely will give it a go as UI is slick and offers support for various weather sources and supports widgets. I did wonder about three things:

- I couldn't find the option to add amount of precipitation / rain mm to show per hour, per day in addition (so show on top of) to percentage (which already exists)
- Have a dedicated homescreen widget to show minute by minute precipitation / rain forecast for next couple of minutes, 2 hours, 24 hours similar to a local Dutch app Buienalarm but then without the horrible data tracking (so I don't have to keep multiple subscriptions)?
- iPad support appears to be missing for now is this in the works?

Thank you so much for adding weat to your AppRaven collections and for the kind words on the UI and features! Really appreciate the support.

To address your questions:

Precipitation Amount (mm): I'm not entirely sure if I fully understood your request, but the forecast layout is actually customizable! You can configure the hourly and daily views to display precipitation amount (mm). If you meant something else, I'd love to hear more details!

Minute-by-Minute Rain Widget: Currently, the widgets focus on hourly precipitation. Minute-by-minute forecasting (similar to Buienalarm) is a great idea—I’ll look into how to implement this cleanly and add it to the roadmap!

iPad Support: A dedicated iPad UI is currently in the design phase. In the meantime, you can still install the iPhone version on iPad and use its home screen widgets as well.

Thanks again for the great feedback!

I see now that the amount (in mm) of rain is indeed available for hourly (in free version). Unfortunately both percentage and amount of rain per day is only available when subscribed. Apologies I overlooked that earlier.
The description in Dutch 'Neerslag' and 'Regen' could be a bit more clear I think to know what shows what kind of information to make clear one is percentage change of rain ('Regen kans (%)' and the other is amount of rain (in Dutch 'Regen hoeveelheid (mm)'.

It is great you take my feedback onboard for widget / app suggestion for minute by minute rain forecast and awesome to read the iPad support is already in the works.

Thanks so much for the quick follow-up and thoughtful reply!

No worries at all! I'm always fine-tuning the app and feature sets, so feedback like this is super helpful.

Also, thank you so much for the specific Dutch translation feedback! Having native localized phrasing makes a huge difference in clarity. I'll make sure to update the descriptions to Regen kans (%) and Regen hoeveelheid (mm) in a future update so it's completely clear for Dutch users.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share these detailed suggestions. It helps immensely as I keep refining the app and exploring ideas like minute-by-minute widgets and iPad support for future updates.

Thanks again for all your support, and feel free to reach out anytime if you have more ideas!
