Ok I'm going to put together all of my iPhone questions into one thread:

I am on a family plan out of contract, which one of the iPhone plans can I use? Can I use the individual plan? Or does my entire family have to switch to an iPhone family plan. Again I am the only one getting an iPhone. Will I only have to add 20 dollars onto my current family plan for only me to use?

Also, I would like to have 2 phones, one that I bring to the beach and other places of the sort, and the iPhone. Could I go out today and get a new RAZR Vxx and start a new 2 year contract, then on friday go out and get the iPhone. And whenever I wanted, just swap the sim cards? Like when I got to the beach I bring the RAZR, then maybe I want to go to the mall and I bring my iPhone?

And lastly, with the changing of sim cards, will a sim card on the iPhone plan work in a RAZR? Not for data that is, just to receive calls and such.

I hope there are some answers out there thank you!

and a P.S., does anyone know how good the EDGE signal is in Orange County, specifically San Clemente? Thank you.

Hopefully you'll get some good answers as these are the exact two questions I'm wondering myself. I am going to call AT&T in a bit and find out. (I'll let you know what I find out)

Edit: Btw, I'm pretty sure if you have decent AT&T signal (just a regular signal), EDGE will be okay. I've heard practically anywhere you can get good signal on AT&T, EDGE is going to be available, too.

i live overseas and the iphone wont be here for another year... what are the chances of people finding ways to unlock the phone and have non-att&t subscribers, be able to use the phone and most (not necessarily all of its feature)

So will I have to pay the 29.99 a month for the iPhone on my family plan PLUS the 20 dollars for data and SMS?

After much confusion on my end, I think you will only have to pay the $29.99. Normally you pay $9.99 but the extra $20 you referred to is already added on top of the $9.99, hence the $29.99. Anyhow, the data & sms is already in the $29.99.

I'm going to an AT&T store tonight to see if they'll let me just get a cheap/free phone and then have the iPhone replace it on Friday.

As I outlined in the other thread, these plans aren't complicated. They're all compatible, just broken up differently.

A family plan with an iPhone is the same as a regular family plan minus the $20 data plan.

G5Unit, I just got back from AT&T and the guy told me if I signed up for a line today (I didn't need anything fancy as a backup phone so I just got a $10 one) I would have no problem adding the iPhone on Friday and I'd be free to swap the SIM cards between the two.

My family has a regular family plan, not one of the iPhone ones. Basically it is all normal except rather than my secondary line costing $9.99, it is going to cost $29.99. That is all the extra fees/work that has to be done.

Oh ok, that helps. So if I were to get a RAZR Vxx that has 3G, would I be able to get 3G data speeds on it while on the iPhone data plan?

Some of the reviews are suggesting there is no swappable SIM card in the iPhone. I guess we need more clarification on this.

If this is the case, why is there even a SIM card slot?

Does anyone have any clue as to how the Notes and Calendar functions of the iPhone will work?

Yes its confirmed its a SIM slot, what is not confirmed is if you can access the SIM.

From the sound of the video, you wont be putting your own SIM into the phone, there is one there already and your number (if you have one) will be assigned to that SIM...

    Confirmed by who?

Depending on how you read it, Mossberg's review indicates that there's no SIM slot. And the setup video doesn't make any mention of it for existing customers.
