The performance of that thing is very impressive, especially multi-core. Beats 8-core Mac Pro towers from nine or ten years ago.

Too bad we still have to deal with 3 GB RAM, as that will be the bottleneck going forward, not the CPU...

RIP. Can’t wait to get my X so I can just idk. Run Geekbench all day I guess

I LOL'd at this.

Seriously, it's an impressive chip, one that I wish I had in my soon to be delivered Note 8. The only thing is, when will you actually see that performance other than running geekbench? You still don't even have actual multitasking which Samsung phones have had for years...

How does this geekbench compared to 7 or 7+? Can someone share geekbench results for those?

Is it as big of a jump from 6 or 6+ to 7 or 7+? If the A11 chip in the OP has a much higher performance increase... this will be another plus for me to wait for the X.

The 7 is 2 generations ahead of the 6, so the relative performance increase is higher than the 7 -> X. With that being said, the MC performance the 8 brings is one of the largest if not the largest performance jumps for a single generation. The SC performance is not as large of a performance increase as seen in some prior generations if that makes sense.

Basically, SC performance gained by 25% compared to the 7, which makes sense as we are approaching some limits for maximum core performance, but the adding of the 2 lower cores in addition to being able to use all cores at the same time (not just HP or LP cores) makes the MC score rocket up.

WOW. This is another plus for waiting for the X. I am just afraid TouchID is going to show up next year that I am afraid to commit at this time.

If the A11 benchmarks are true, the iPhone X/8/8+ is faster than the iPad Pro. Essentially, it's about ~2x faster than anything from Android.

At risk of a call from Cupertino for negating the upsell for you two, FYP. The 8 has the same chip as the X.

It's definitely nice, but honestly, isn't much of a factor for me as what app is going to come close to using that power? What app comes close to using the a10? With apps having to support 5 year old phones, nothing will be taking advantage of this awesome new processor. Since iOS is so simple, and can run well on weaker hardware, much more powerful hardware doesn't really change the user experience that much.

Personally, I don't notice any speed increase with my iphone 7 in apps and moving around the OS compared to my wifes 6s which had a much larger relative single core speed increase, which is more important than the multi core score as again, iOS is relatively simple and doesn't have real multitasking.

What do you mean wait for it? The iPhone 8 has the same processor.

If you think about the future, it's only going to get more advanced as far as graphics go. AR applications are going to become more advanced and processing intensive. Apps will get better and more complex that will have greater realism. Given all of that, eventually there will come a time when you will see your 7 not be as fast... just like anyone with a 6. It's inevitable.

Agreed, better for the future. The thing is, AR will take 1-2 years to have a good amount of quality apps. It will also take 1-2 years for apps to even come close to stressing the a10 and its GPU (we are only talking a 30% performance in GPU with the a11). Basically, it doesn't make a lot of sense to get price gouged and go through 1st generation issues to take advantage of things in the distant future.

It will take awhile for that to become developed and popular. I would rather wait till next year at the very least to see how much more the iPhone and iOS can evolve.

The problem with waiting is, there will always be something new. For me, I've skipped a couple of years and think its about time for a switch. You never know. All we know now is Touch ID is probably coming next year, but thats about it. You have to ask yourself how much better are you looking for before you jump?
