i just came across this while running a few benchmarks on the phone to make sure it’s up to par with the posted averages and all went as expected. What I didn’t expect was when comparing the 3dmark slingshot results to see the iPad pros ahead considerably of the iPhone 8.

Way ahead as in 2642 average for the iPhone 8 and 4597 average for the iPad Pro 2017. I thought this a11 was ahead of their past chips in all aspects?

Interesting side note though is for ice storm the iPhone 8 is ontop of everyone.

Just a thought - might be due to heat management issues in the smaller phone since the iPad has a lot more surface area to dissipate the heat and can probably sustain high CPU/GPU loads longer...

Yep. My iPad Pro scored about 2x higher than my iPhone 8 in Geekbench Compute benchmark which testes the GPU. The GPU in the iPad is much stronger than what is on the iPhones. It needs it since it has a higher resolution and double the refresh rate.

CPU vs CPU the A11 is about 10% faster than the A10X in the iPad Pro using GeekBench 4.

The iPad has to push plenty of pixels on that large display. It definitely has the more powerful gpu yet weaker processor.

How come it loses in 3dmark ice storm to the iPhone 8 then?

Anyways thanks for the info, I honestly didn’t realize the iPad was that far ahead of the iPhone in GPUs performance.

iPad Pro a10x has a 12 core gpu variant of the 6 core a10. The device is bigger, can fit a larger die, and has more ability to dissipate heat. a11 cpu wise is solidly faster though.

Yea this a11 is definitely an impressive little chip. Trying to figure out by the end of the year if I should upgrade my cheaper android tablet to an iPad Pro and go right up to a surface pro series hybrid.

Does the iPhone meet all your needs ? Do the apps and programs come up fast? That’s all you have to concern yourself with. Numbers are meaningless

Agreed, too many people are getting hung up on synthetic benchmarks that really fail to paint a picture of usage. Over in the iPad forum, some folks were getting worked up over the A11 and needing to wait, when for 99% of usage, the A10, is clearly more then enough CPU. That is for how we use the iPhones and iPads, the current state of CPUs are such that people will not notice the speed in real world usage.
