Hi,
Having charging problem with my A1502 EMC2835. It was not charging, so I have replaced the battery and as the new battery had 5% on it, I was able to boot it and use it for a while. Then I have suspected charging port which I have replaced. For some reason, I cannot keep it running while it is connected to the charger.

Are there any other components I could replace or potentially responsible for charging? I doubt it is the battery. I did get a second hand charging port, and it could potentially be faulty, but just looking for other solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

I had problem charing my MacBook Air 2010 today and was using my 2012 MBP pro chord.
then the 2010 chord showed a green then amber light and io was good to go!

if you have a USBc charing port you can use anything to charge that considering the power output is enough.
if mag safe could be your charger yo might have short in the chord, were both my MagSafe need electrical tape
in certain areas of the chord to work, or if you need a replacement I can recommend OWC macsales.
they hav ideals on MacBook adaptors and stand by their sales!

umm what year is the MacBook Pro, a 2015? that helped for getting responses her instead to the model #.

-hope this helped?

Hi guys,
thanks for your replies, unfortunately no luck. I have replaced the charging port again, thinking it could have been that. But once the charger is connected from green after 1-2sec goes to orange and macbook is not charging, I can not boot it. It was working as when i have replaced the battery it's had 5% and while connected I could still use it while connected. As I have noticed early enough it wasn't charging, iI had it connected all the time to keep the 5% letting me use my Mac. I hope that makes sense. :)
Am I right to think that it should still run while connected to the charger, even when unable to charge?

Thanks again for your time
Tom

OP said the MacBook is an a1502 emc2835 which can only be an early 2015 13" Pro.

Try running diagnostics by holding down the D key from a code boot.
When the charge is connected I can't boot the system, won't switch on. Issue with charging or even transferring the current of some sort.

Try this: disconnect the battery, connect the charger, don't touch the keyboard, and see if the MacBook boots on its own.

If it still doesn't boot, disconnect the battery, keyboard and trackpad from the logic board, connect charger, and see if it boots.

If it still doesn't, disconnect battery, keyboard, and trackpad from the logic board, connect the charger, and try to boot using the power pad on the logic board.

I have tried all the options and no luck.
I have removed the battery completely, then tried all the options.
Nothing changed when I've shortened those connectors on the motherboard, but when accidentally touched those two on the right, a light went green on the charger bit connected to the port. That's the only difference.

To the @op, how technical would you like to get? Would you have repair tools to debug this logic board? We have a very active low level logic board repair forum on badcaps if you would like to post there as well.

Summary:

1) review exactly which logic board is in your box. It will be of the format 820-xxxx. It will be helpful to locate the proper schematic for this review.

2) be 100% sure that you are using the original and recommended power adapter. Only the original power adapter designs will offer the correct soft start of the power supply and contain the single-wire communication used by the logic board to extract the adapter details.

3) The charging of the battery and the use of the adapter only may be 2 different cases to review. Often, during battery replacement, ESD events will kill a TVS ESD component @ D7050 (820-4924 logic board). Once this protection device is zapped from an ESD event, the battery pack can no longer communicate with the rest of the logic board. Therefore, the battery cannot be charged. Essentially, a pre-charged battery will power the board till it depletes but cannot be charged by the host adapter.

4) The power adapter should be able to run the logic board. If it cannot, then the magsafe or USB Type C (on the respective models) must be reviewed. Starting with PPBUS_G3H and also D7005. Each is linked to vital power rails to start the power up sequence. There are many common faults with these designs that you can review on the badcaps forum.

Either way, proper tools and some background experience is required. At the very least, a multimeter to perform some voltage / resistance / diode mode tests. Perhaps you have a local repair shop that can perform low level phone repairs? Armed with the proper diagnosis, you should be able to get a local tech to repair this unit.
