Over the last month or so I've been enjoying some speculative design work and the other day I started deliberating what the A18 Macbook might look like. I know I'm a bit late - its's probably going to be announced at a Spring event in a couple of months - but I just enjoyed the process and wanted to share my thoughts here.

The only rumours I had to go on were that it will have a 12.9" screen, come in blue/pink/yellow/silver and be budget priced.

A lot of people really hope this will be a slick, cool device which would be reasonable if it was priced as a premium product like the iPhone Air. If this is going to be a cheap device with a phone chipset and be priced between an iPad and a Macbook Air though, I think the white accents make sense. Apples 'friendly' products like the iMac have white bezels and the base iPad only comes with a white keyboard. A silver and black A18 MacBook would probably also look desirable enough to cannibalise MacBook Air sales. If this is also competing with Chromebooks for kids in school, the more friendly design might make sense.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my speculation and thought it might be of some interest. What do you think, is this a dumb idea?

That looks very good! I just hope that it'll be called iBook and that we'll see a completely white version of it.
Cheers, it was fun to imagine what’s coming. If the new HomeHub thing ends up looking like a G4 iMac, we might be in luck for an all-white MacBook! I confess my heart was always for the 12” PowerBook though.

Nice job! This is what I would call an instant buy, even if it comes with Tahoe, which I haven't (& probably won't soon) install on my other Macs. Don't need much to be happy, but a small white laptop and a legible OS can work wonders.
