Over the last month or so I've been enjoying some speculative design work and the other day I started deliberating what the A18 Macbook might look like. I know I'm a bit late - its's probably going to be announced at a Spring event in a couple of months - but I just enjoyed the process and wanted to share my thoughts here.

The only rumours I had to go on were that it will have a 12.9" screen, come in blue/pink/yellow/silver and be budget priced.

A lot of people really hope this will be a slick, cool device which would be reasonable if it was priced as a premium product like the iPhone Air. If this is going to be a cheap device with a phone chipset and be priced between an iPad and a Macbook Air though, I think the white accents make sense. Apples 'friendly' products like the iMac have white bezels and the base iPad only comes with a white keyboard. A silver and black A18 MacBook would probably also look desirable enough to cannibalise MacBook Air sales. If this is also competing with Chromebooks for kids in school, the more friendly design might make sense.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my speculation and thought it might be of some interest. What do you think, is this a dumb idea?

These are cool! The white keyboard and bezel look great and would be a nice callback to the iBook or the plastic MacBooks from circa 2010. I’d buy your concept 🙂

These look brilliant and are much more along the lines of what people were expecting the MacBook Air to look like after the iMac redesign. Also no notch!

It's funny, since it's going to be cheap I decided to give it the same thickness bezels as an iPad. Whilst I saw one comment on Reddit ask why they're so chunky, everyone else is just delighted at the thought of no notch! I'm worried that 'no notch' might be considered a premium feature now 😉

This is what I would love to get to replace my outdated 2017 12" Macbook that I take for travels.

Don't need the processing power, graphics or other MBP features - just a simple, long battery life, no fan Macbook!

Sort of like my iPhone 17 Air that I love so much even though there are so many haters for the Air these days....

Except for the silver color, which is boring, the other colors are suitable for 5yo kids... and a white colored keyboard is the worst thing that can be, because who wants dirty-yellow-brownish keys after couple of years.

I’m expecting a notch, but I could see the device going thinner even. Depends on battery life they desire.

The white looks lovely. 💖 But no pink. 🙁
Keep your fingers crossed, my initial assumption was that they would basically do similar colours to the current iPad. Hopefully we'll find out soon!

To be honest, this 'experience' event seems like it should be for something more tactile than a new laptop. Perhaps the mythical HomeHub? That's something that users might need to be taught how to use, explained the functionality of and shown how it integrates with HomeKit devices around a demo room. So maybe the invite colours are related to that.

Only those three colors will be strange. I also think it's for something else.

Wouldn't it be a dream to have the new Macbook with touchscreen ability like a current iPad ?

I have narrowed down the color i want (provided it is a bold color) to Purple…make that Yellow…no, make that Green… or all White like the original MB would be even better.
