Apple's next-generation Studio Display will contain an "A19 Pro" chip, according to code reviewed by MacRumors.

Yesterday, signs of the second-generation Studio Display with the codename J427 were spotted in Apple code. Now, it has emerged that the device will contain the as-yet unreleased A19 Pro chip. The A19 Pro is almost certain to debut in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max next month.

The Studio Display's chip supports features like Center Stage, Spatial Audio, and "Hey Siri" commands. The current Studio Display launched in 2022 with the A13 Bionic, a chip that started out in the iPhone 11 lineup back in 2019.

Rumors suggest that the next-generation Studio Display will come out in early 2026, when we're also expecting new Macs. Little is known about the new Studio Display, but it could feature mini-LED backlighting for improved brightness, contrast, and color.

Can these be used by Windows/Linux in any fashion? My Dell 4k usb-c monitor works with whatever you plug into it, and I often have my work-issued Dell connected when I'm WFH.
Yes. With an adaptor but with some caveats in terms of what you can adjust. I wouldn’t recommend it for use with a PC.

They can work on Windows and Linux machines that support Thunderbolt but only on a very rudimentary level. Things like Center Stage, certain audio functions, and other software-derived features won't work, but the display and webcam itself would.

You'd be better off with better supported display like the ones from Samsung, Asus, or Dell.

My two ASDs are the best monitors I’ve owned. I’m excited to see what a V2 would bring. Ideally I’d like a 32-inch variant that costs less than the Pro Display XDR.

I feel the same. While I have zero negative (and loads of positive) comments about my current ASD, I would also upgrade to a 32" version if the price was reasonable.

Imagine if this was the 27" iMac people were asking for! I think the first gen Studio display had the full iPhone 11 board in with the A13 and 64 GB storage. Could this have the A19 Pro, 12 GB RAM and 256 GB (rumoured to be the minimum storage level for the A19 Pro iPhones)? Combine that with the A18 Pro MacBook rumour and why coudn't this run as a standalone iMac and then have the ability to connect to more powerful Macs too?

Unfortunately, the Samsung, Asus, or Dell alternative displays only have a non-competitive matt display and no glossy display. That's why the Apple Studio Display has this outstanding picture!

My Dell has thunderbolt, but it doesn't sound worth it...plus my 4k Dell monitor is matte...I doubt they will offer a matte version.

Thanks!

And it still will lack any built in controls and the ability to be used with a PC and a Mac, without the use of an external hub. That is my understanding.
If they make to 32" I am in anyway. Giving it manual physical controls would be a God send too and the ability to be used with more than a Mac out of the box. Otherwise what is the point of sticking an A17 Pro in it exactly?

I guess some people really have an interest in the built in camera & speakers; but those are some of the reasons why I specifically bought the XDR. Besides (obviously) being larger and higher quality, it's also the fact that the XDR is just a display, with no other fluff.

so they're allegedly releasing a MacBook with A18 Pro but at the same time they're allegedly releasing A MONITOR with faster SOC? Why would a monitor need that powerful SOC? Will it run TVOS? Even Apple TV is supposed to have older and slower chip lol

It does seem a bit odd that this new Apple Studio Display would require the latest A-series SoC to run. The current Apple Studio Display uses the A13, which was three years old at the time of launch, so one would think this new Studio Display could use an A16 or A17.

Then again, years before the current Apple Studio Display launched there were rumors that Apple was developing a display that had an integrated GPU so maybe that is now becoming a reality and they want the best GPU cores they have (which will be in the A19 Pro). :p
