Here is a good review on the new A8 that powers both the iPhone 6 and plus, surprisingly the gpu is not 6 cores but 4 cores. The A8 is very similar to the A7 with only modest improvements. Due to the IPhone 6 Plus resolution, the gpu does not perform as well as the gpu in the Iphone 6. All of the performance gains show up more in the Iphone 6 than the Plus. For gaming, Iphone 6 is the better device.

Yeah.

The non-S cycle is usually about design changes. The 6s is where I would look for more improved internals.
