What a meaningless comment. Sony has released innumerable first-party true AAA games during the PS4 and PS5 generations.

You miss out on by a factor of 10, the best experiences a human can have with video games.

Sony has actual writers. There is an actual story. An actual narrative. Dialogue. Gameplay. Actors.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo have neither Story, or actors. Nor games at all really…
 Was just a quip, is called humour...

Did you follow the simple instructions from Mac Source Ports entry for Doom 3: BFG Edition, or was there more to it? "If you haven't already, make a "~/Library/Application Support/RBDOOM-3-BFG/" directory. Copy the "base" directory from an existing installation of DOOM 3: BFG Edition into it. From here RBDoom3BFG.app should run and be able to find the data."

Where did you buy your copy? GoG, or Humble? Were you able to use the Extractor utility from Mac Source Ports to get the .PAK file into the new directory?

And, lastly, were you able to do all of this while in MacOS?
I just followed the instructions on Mac Source Ports. I have Windows systems so is easier for me. Original Doom 3 bought directly from Apple back in the day. Doom 3 I did solely in macOS via an older Mac (32 bit OS) as Apple kindly depreciated the game :( (not Apple's fault more the laziness of the publisher to update to 64 bit). Very easy as just copy the base folder.

The BFG version was bought on GOG. I pulled the data files (base folder again) from the Windows install and copied to macOS, hope helps :) Both RBDoom-3-BFG & dhewm3 run really well on Apple Silicon under macOS 12 Monterey.

Think there's a note to create the data folder first then move to Library/Application Support as some have had issue. I didn't and was able to create data folders for both games directly in the Library.

If you get stuck PM me, I'll happily help...

I seem to remember paying $30-50 for popular games as a kid in the 90s - seems like $70 is actually not a terrible deal when accounting for 30 years of inflation. Hopefully the game developers are seeing some of that increase - as I understand they're pretty underpaid for the work they do.
Right? I think goldeneye was $39…?

While I'm eagerly waiting for Starfield. I'm not willing to pay 70 dollars. If I wait and at some point they'll be discounting them.
This isn't a crowd pleasing take but I think there are solid arguments that the recent price adjustments are if anything overdue. I hate battlepass and lootbox style monetization systems, but expecting game prices to stay at 60 bucks forever since the mid 90s with inflation overtime isn't realistic in my view, and encourages these worse sneakier monetization practices. Personally I would prefer to drop as much as even 100 dollars / euros on a game I will play for many hours like Starfield or Diablo IV if that was the only cost to get the full experience.

I play on a PC, so I won't have to wait that long ;)
Yeah so do I, it's one of few games I won't mind paying full price at launch. Other games I generally just wait for a sale which are often enough you can always get deals. Plus I have such a backlog getting new games isn't always the priority when I have enough to play already. So pricing going up doesn't bother me as much, but it better be good. (like way better then Fallout 76 ;)).

Hahaha those games are all complete and utter garbage compared to God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War: Ragnarok is easily worth $100+ even though it is of course $70. Those games you mentioned are shovelware trash comparatively speaking.
Let’s be a little nicer here shall we? Those games are not garbage. Superman 64 is. Just look at the Steam reviews and how happy people are with these games.

God of War is not for me. I will never call it garbage though.

I was able to get some in-depth from the admin of Mac Source Ports via his Discord, for how to do the job without a PC at all, so I’ll let you know if it doesn’t work.

You want complicated and fun games in 4k HDR at 120hz, game developers have to be paid money to make those games to the tune of 150-300 people.

Then there is online support for the multiplayer, because apparently no one wants to play a single player anymore. Then there is marketing, DLC, post game patching, reviewers to buy off, etc.

You want games for "free"? Get GamePass, I guess.

I mean ... everything else in the world is going up in price too. I'm about to sell my PS5 though and go back to PC gaming because of the massive discounts that PC games frequently have (i.e. Steam) that the PlayStation doesn't.

According to some inflation calculator, here are a few figures of dollars in 2000 adjusted for inflation to 2022:

20002022
$30~$50
$50~$80
$70~$110

Whether games these days are equivalent to what they were 20 years ago is a separate question. Regardless, market saturation and digital distribution have driven prices into the ground – supply and demand.

It's also funny to think that people will spend $15 on a nice burger, fries, and drink without batting an eye, but a $15 game is a major financial decision to mull over while eating your burger. Better wait for a sale. Heaven forbid its a mobile app, where you are required to summon a committee and produce triplicate signed documents before considering such a purchase.

How is terraria on Apple Silicon? I saw some bad videos about it, even with the Mac Studio. I never gave it a try on my new mac.
Let me get back to you some time this week.
As promised, I booted up Terraria and for the past few days the game ran fine with some exceptions.
  • For whatever reason, it performed better for me in windowed view, rather than fullscreen. Maybe because I scale my display?
  • Performance suffered with several points of lighting. The single player world I was on has a lot of lights at home, so when I spawned it was apparent.
I didn't realize there's new achievements, so I got them and am 100% again, part of it was dealing with the new shimmer fluid. I spawned a bunch of faelings, and that many points of light caused lag, as well as killing them with my Zenith. I've attached images of such.

Overall, the game ran fine for me, I don't know what the light source threshold is before I have hiccups, but that may not be the cause of lag anyway for all I know. One of the new achievements involves placing a bunch of torches and surviving an attack from them, and the amount of torches necessary didn't cause lag for me.

Burger is always good, games are often so meh :D

Better idea: Just don't buy. You don't have to buy a new game day one.

You're not really a 'gamer' then. Seriously though, I have a lot of gamer friends and that concept of not needing to be there on launch day is not an option. Gamers will find $70 even if it's too expensive.

A lot of normies either just want the latest Madden and CoDs, or want the biggest releases day one to avoid spoilers. That last part is especially prevalent ever since Fallout 4 with the Boston Salt Party which was a troll campaign to spoil the game's story on par with the Harry Potter spoilers. It gets even worse with Playstation Exclusives as The Last of Us Part 2 was spoiled like crazy a month in advance.

Yeah, but the Last of Us 2 was a schizophrenic mess to some people and is still nowhere near the amount of love as the first
