Hi All,

Loving the new IPad and I went for the 1 TB, my question is do you think the new IPAD PRO could run games like GTA 5/Fallout 4/ Doom.

I don’t think the Nintendo switch is has powerful as the new iPads?

Do you think we will see more AAA titles on the iPad.

Cheers
Jonnyp

It would run them better than the switch, the question is more in the market. The Switch is a games console, people are expecting to pay ~$50 for a game. On the iPad there's many available for >~$10, charging $50-60 for games might cause a lot of people to hold back, so might not be worth it to the developers.

Civ came out at a high price which I think was a bit of an experiment, it'd be nice to see a few more AAA games however the primary use of an iPad is not for games, there is no official controller and playing with touch/developing for touch would always be a pain.

There is a possibility.

Apple did mention that the new iPad Pro is as fast as the xBox One so may be Apple has something planned??

Games can be available since the iPhone X’s is also a very capable device for mobile gaming.

May be we could see something next year?

Well, it can be as powerful as an Xbox One for a short time before it throttles. Difference between the Switch(as well as the XOne) and iPad Pro, is that the Switch has a fan to cool it off, whereas the iPad has to stay below a temp otherwise it’ll overheat after a long period of pushing it.

Plus the market is completely different which sucks for us who want AAA games on the scale of those kind of games. Plus Apple doesn’t seem to care that much about AAA games to push it.

I'm not aware of any really large-scale companies that dedicate efforts to targeting the iPad specifically for their flagship games – I think more often, they notice the iPad is viable and they'll port something when it works.

So there are some major titles on it: Final Fantasy retro and mobile games, KOTOR from the Star Wars franchise, and some other stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong; I'd be interested to know.

How is Star Wars KOTOR? It’s an old game but does it hold up?

I can't say from experience; it's just something I knew was well-reviewed and I thought I remembered was there. I don't play anything extreme on it – I've been happy to use the iPad for Super Mario Run, Myst and realMyst, and a few others.

I dig it. The only part that is tricky on iPad is pod racing. Everything else is easy enough to handle via touch since you can set fights to occur in turns.

XCOM:EW and Civ VI have been great to play on my 12.9” iPad. Feel like I’m a futuristic general commanding my troops from my super bunker or something:

IPad 3 has the potential to be a great gaming system.

If only Apple would flex their money muscle then developers would make great games for iPad Pro.
Hell even Apple TV didn’t get much support

Does it have MFi Controller support?

Does anyone know if you can use the new iPad Pro as a display for either PS4 or Xbox? Either streaming/remotely or direct via usb-c to HMDI?

I have an old Steelseries Stratus that's MFi, but I'm holding out on buying another controller because I heard that *finally* iOS 12.1 will support L3/R3 analog click sticks which will bring a lot more potential for AAA games.

Current MFi state is a bit "meh" because it doesn't support all the same controls as say an XBox or DualShock PS4 controller, especially L3/R3. Hopefully that changes soon with these guys making one: https://9to5toys.com/2018/11/01/rotor-riot-wired-controller/

I think with R-Play you can stream PS4 games to iPad and also possibly pair your PS4 controller via Bluetooth. I'm interested in going that route but haven't made the leap yet.

Is it worth it? I've never played it so does it hold up today?

The graphics aren't like today's game so don't expect anything in that regard. However, the game is fun, the RPG elements have depth. It's definitely not optimized for the new iPads though. I have the black bars on my 11" and I doubt they'll update it.

Has anyone played NBA 2K19? Is it the full game, as in, I can select any two teams and play a full game? I don't care about any other modes or features. Does it have MFi controller support?

I use the Nimbus as well, it works pretty good.
That’s what I was going to check with. Unfortunately, KotOR has a bug that causes it to crash at launch on 12.9” iPad pros. There’s a note in the support FAQ dated September 12 about it.
