Hi everyone,

A very small but (for me personally at least) very handy feature was that I could tap the screen while my iPhone was charging and the battery percentage got displayed for a short period of time.

This seems to be gone now with iOS 16. I haven't found a way to bring this functionality back. Sure, I could add a widget or display the percentage in the status bar but the old behavior was much better for me because the percentage only got displayed temporarily.

Same here. I've searched for that but so far no luck. The only other way to know how much it had been charging is by lifting then sit it down on a wireless charger it will show the percentage.

EDIT: You can see the percentage on the battery icon at top right by turning it on. How?

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Battery.
  3. Toggle on Battery Percentage.
There you go. It does show that by one tap on screen while it's on a wireless charger. The problem? Damn tiny to see from an arm distance!

Apple for some reason seems to have thought that either the battery percentage in the status bar or a battery widget on the Lock Screen was somehow an appropriate replacement for this function... they really aren't.

Came here thinking it had to be something I did to not have it show anymore.

totally agree. why remove useful info to replace it with blank wallpaper is about the opposite of user friendly.

Thanks for the reply. However, I would definitely prefer the old iOS 15 behavior because as you also stated, the percentage in the menu bar is really tiny. I hope, Apple adds this functionality back!

Your welcome.

After reading someone's post about battery widget in this forum, I've tested this and it works. But the problem is just the circle (no ##%). You'd have to swipe from left to see numbers inside the green circle!

This still sucks!

I came to post about this but there's already this thread. I really can't get what Apple have been thinking lately. They enabled battery percentage is the most stupid way of always showing the battery as full which is misleading. And then they removed the battery percentage while charging. I have no words to express how I feel about these changes... Apple, I used to be an Apple Hater in 2010 and the iPhone 3GS turned me into a fanboy due to it being very intuitive and with an ergonomically designed interface. But lately you've been removing good features and/or replacing them with something that is an absolute abomination. Can't believe there isn't one sane designer in a multi-billion corporation...

OK, I managed to workaround it!

When customizing the Lock Screen, add the battery widget which by default shows the battery of the Apple Watch (at least in my case, since I have one) but you have to click on the added widget while still editing and then deselect "Automatic" and from the devices list choose the iPhone and voila, now it's shown!
