Interesting. There is a reply from Eric W (from Apple) in the discussions thread that implies that this is just speculation right now, but it does seem that mac.com's days are numbered. Oh well, it had a good run (mostly).

I have a feeling that the "advisor" had no idea what he was on about.

I'm pretty sure mac.com addresses will continue to work as 'sent from'.
