the benchmark:

to summarize:
27-29% in the Live Five Performance Test (lower% is better)
iMac CoreDuo 2ghz
1GB RAM
Live 5.2b3
OSX 10.4.5
what do other machines score with Ableton Live 5?
Powerbook G4 1.67ghz - 65%
iMac G5 1.8ghz - 48%
iMac G5 2.1ghz - 39%
PowerMac G5 2x2.5ghz (PCI-X) - 32%
PowerMac G5 2x2.3ghz (dualcore) - 30%
Centrino 2ghz running windows - 27%
AMD64 3400 - 27%
so basically its on par with the same intel processors in windows machines, and in Live 5 the Intel CoreDuo is the fastest processor for a Mac running Ableton Live.
Keep in mind, this is only utilizing 1 core for the audio engine. Live 5 is not multi-threaded.
Live 6 (Q3 2006) will feature multi-threading, which will help dual core PPC and Intel Macs even more. but even without multi-threading these results are extremely positive. The performance gap between windows and OSX with Ableton Live is no more. the only gap is between x86 and PPC processors.
bravo Apple, and bravo Ableton.
