I would like to get EYETV for my Mac Book Pro what I can afford for now. I know my Mac Book Pro does not have HDMI and Digital audio out put for A/V. What I know there is only option is to use stereo jack out. That is worse thing to do.

What I have Pioneer Elite A/V that hook up with Panasonic PT-AE4000U Video Projector and 7.1 surround speakers which are awesome. It is all HDMI that will work for video and digital sounds.

Is there a way other device make it work for my Mac Book Pro to have digital audio? or I have to buy Mac Mini will be the solution.

Has any one done with your Mac Book Pro that able to have digital audio output with HDMI video/sound? I appericated your time.

Which Macbook pro do you have? I know at least the ones from a couple of years ago until now all have a audio port that doubles as a optical digital port.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Mine is November, 2009 2.53 ghz CPU 4GB ram. 15" aluminum Mac book pro. Is that answer your question?

Yes there is an adapter you can buy to get optical out. I forgot what its called but I have one of them that I use with my astro mixamp. Its a very small piece and all it does is convert the 3.5mm Jack to a optical port.

most (if not all macs) have had digital outs for a while, my 5 year old MBP has one.

just need a mini toslink cable. looks like a regular headphone jack, but a bit longer. and a receiver with an optical input.

or if you have a minidisplay port (which i think you do), just get the following, to have an HDMI port with audio.
plugs into the mini displayport for video, the audio port for audio, and a USB port to power the adapter.

i don't believe that mac supports 7.1 surround yet, but you'll at least get 5.1

Your 3.5mm audio out jack also doubles as a mini-optical jack.

Use a mini-optical->TOSlink cable or whatever end format you'd like and it will work out fine. Then run that to your optical input on your AV receiver (it should have one) and zone it with the corresponding HDMI input. Done.

Of course since you're running a MBP you'll need a mDP->HDMI adapter or miniDVI->HDMI adapter depending on your notebook; I don't recall when they made the switch exactly but since its '09 its probably mDP. Additionally, if you're one of the mac's that now supports audio over mDP then you can just convert to HDMI, however I don't think the '09 ones do, but I'm not entirely sure.

That said, you could also do a merger; I've seen devices out there that will run optical into the HDMI line (You'd need HDMI+Optical to Box, Box -> HDMI).

Thanks To Guys Who Answered My ?

I will go for it Monoprice as it will support my 2009 Macbookpro.

I checked the newest and most simple http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTgwOTAzMjI

But it only will work after early 2010 MacbookPro that has mini DVI output for HDMI and digital audio.

Too bad for my older MacbookPro does not have built in digital audio for mini DVI. So thought for someone who wants simple and small device for their newer Macbookpro.
