101 here in the North Bay....sheesh. :(

We have 8 (count 'em) ceiling fans in our house, and we just got these new things called Reel Screens installed inside our french doors so that we can leave the doors open for a breeze yet have a disappearing screen to keep bugs, etc. out. Pretty cool, eh? We also have a pool.

We'll be right over! We'll bring our swim gear and a couple of bottles of Campari. Make sure you've got some crushed ice on hand. :D

Yeah, and fans and air conditioners around San Jose are sold out. Just ordered a portable aircon from an online retailer and paid $158 for next day shipping. Anyone using a portable aircon? Does it work well?

aye, been reet toasty in Saddleworth too. I mean normally wind keeps us cold during heat waves but bloody hell, the wind dropped so it's been an oven. I've never felt it this bad before! It's the nights that annoy me.

but today is so different. the wind is back, my windows are open and my bedroom says it is 23ºC and it's heavenly. I miss wrapping up in my duvet.

... is it just me or does this weather reduce libido  it's something I've always wanted to know but always forget to ask.

how do you not have a/c?

In this area it rarely gets warm enough for it. Fans and open windows usually do the trick. A/C is generally not needed, even when its warm. This is an exception though, I'll bet a lot of people around here wish they had it right now but for the vast majority (~90%) of times its not as useful as you would think.

Yeah, here in Huntsville, AL it's been around 100, and our 20 year old air conditioner went out... so... the ac guys are supposed to be replacing it sometime between monday and wednesday, I guess...

I've been keeping cool by taking my shirt off, but here in the basement without any windows open, and 1 floor fan going, it's still hot!

No kidding, here in Sector 4, Mars we've seen highs of 40 F which is actually pretty high considering most of the time it's between -200 and 0.

tell me you're kidding. if you're not, please lie!

Some impressive temps here, crikey!
I'm in florida right now, we got heat and humidity but it seems everyone has a fair share of hot weather lately.

My daughter just returned from two months in Pakistan. 55°C measured in the shade. I just can't imagine how anyone could acclimatize to that.

i hear uranis is nice this time of the year.

The high in Woodland Hills, CA (part of Los Angeles, for those who aren't familiar with these parts) on Saturday was 119°F (48°C), not only a record for the day but a record for any day. It may also be the highest temperature ever recorded in Southern California. They have also set a record for a stretch of 100°-plus days in a row, currently at 21 days and counting. I don't live in Los Angeles, but it was 103°F on Saturday where I live, not very far away, which is probably also a record. More records were set in the area on Sunday. This has been going on since early June. It's been unnaturally humid as well, with overnight lows not much under 75°F anywhere for the last few days (about 10-15° above normal).

I've been living in this part of the country for over 30 years, and have never seen anything even remotely like it.

Well I have lived in Texas and have grown to expect hot summers. But it's dry as hell here and we have water bans and ****. Fireworks were banned for fear it would start fires. It hasn't rained substantially for weeks on end. This past week I was looking at my thermostat and it was registering 105F and up.

Today seemed like a cooldown, it was only 95 :p

You people in Frisco are lucky; down here in Clovis, it's 112F during the day and only gets down to 90F at night.

lol Frisco is the name of a City here in Dallas/FT.Worth area. I guess you were refering to San Fransisco though

Is that 158 for shipping alone?

Portable? Are you talking about the units that sit on the inside on the floor and have a hose that mounts in the window? I looked at those but decided a small window unit was better for me.

Over 100, thats just crazy if you are not in the southwest.... Florida's weather has been pretty normal actually... low 90's, rain every afternoon/evening for about 1-2 hours, and 77-81 degrees after dark. Humidity? Its always humid here.

So far the summer here feels cooler than normal to me. Its usually around 95. The next 7 days we will be lucky to leave the 89-92 range in Tampa. Hasn't changed in the last 3-4 weeks really.

You're lucky you have clouds. Everyday my weather widget has a bright orange sun. And the estimates for the week go up 3-7 degrees when the specific day actually comes.

It only reduces the libido 'coz I know I'll get even more sweaty than I am now :p
