In persona non grata
You know how you can click on the little Apple and then get a hardware profile of the computer. Is there a way to do this in Windows XP?

I just came into possession of a PC box, but have no idea what size HDD, what Video Card, memory, or even processor it has.

Any help would be appreciated!

No - System info

No, you don't want the Device Manager, yuck.

You want System Info. Here is one of many ways to get there.

  1. Run Internet Explorer (sorry if you are not already).
  2. Figure out where the Menus are. If they are hidden, ala IE 8, there may be the word File in the upper left, then two arrows like >>
  3. (You could also run Word or Excel)
  4. Select Help
  5. About Internet Explorer
  6. Click System Info...
Or:
Start, Run,
Code:
sysinfo32

In System Info, it will tell you most things, but maybe not your Mac's serial number which is probably what some people were looking for.

I wish there was an "About This Mac For Windows" program from Apple's Bootcamp. The Bootcamp install is getting pretty big now, so a little USEFUL app would be great when someone calls Apple and doesn't know their serial.
