It's been updated to Broadwell already (unlike the 15" MBPrs). It's about as up-to-date as it's going to get at this point, most likely until Skylake which is a good long ways down the road.

As they said, not a chance. Unless you want to wait until Skylake, probably 6-9 months or more away, buy fearlessly.

Depends on your use case, for most people 8GB (in OS X with ram compression etc) will be plenty for the foreseeable future.
