... you get more L3 cache

people keep saying this; for general reference:

2.0 Ghz has 6MB of cache: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=53463

2.2 GHz has 6MB of cache: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=50067

2.3 GHz has 8MB of cache: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52227

the 2.3 being the $250 CPU upgrade option on the 2.2.

Sorry about that, could have sworn the mid-grade had 8MB as well off the top of my head... haven't looked super close yet as my 2010 is still going strong and not getting a new one until the iPod sale (wife wants a MBP now, so she gets the 2010 and I get the 2011 when that day comes). Anyways, my post will be edited in the coming moments.

(Thankyou so much for all your replies, I dont have time right now to address all the responses - but I'll address Tadros86's comments as they seem to be the biggest point of confusion here! Thanks again :) ):

Clarify your post so I can help you lol
I am looking at the two current models. Both i7, both quad core.
I am definitely getting Antiglare. I am definitely getting 7200rpm HDD.
The differences between the two are: RAM, CPU and GPU (as detailed in original post.)

With regards to the audio production side of things:
IDK what engineer told you that ALL that matters is RAM and HDD speed.
Um, he's extremely experienced and it may pay for you to read more closely my original post:
I have been advised [by him] that HDD speed and RAM are the most important when buying a computer [for audio production].
He by no means suggested they were the only things. Obviously he wouldn't mean me to throw 16gigs of ram and an SSD at an old Pentium 2!

I hope this clarifies some things for people.
Any more responses would be greatly appreciated - but please read and try and understand my topic post first! (I tried to make it understandable, clear and thorough so I wouldn't get flamed!) Ha! That didn't work too well did it. ;)

Thanks again
Alexander

Ram

It all depends if the audio apps are true 64-bit. Logic should be, but I think protools is still 32-bit, meaning it wouldn't address more than 4GB of memory.

Go with the better GPU and 4GB of ram, and upgrade your memory to 8GB dimms in a year, and if you go through OWC they will give you credit for your ram. 16GB sticks are already being certified in other servers, so the price of 8GB sticks should be down by then.

/2cents

My suggestion would be to get the 2.2Ghz get the stock 4GB of RAM and see how logic runs if its fine stay with it but if you need more RAM just buy the RAM off crucial for ~$95. As for the processor i am a programmer and i would rather die then work on a 13" screen (slight exageration but...). Seriously you are going to be using this machine dont just think $$ think what will actually benefit you. Considering you are going to be doing Video editing you may also want to consider a Matte Screen (aka Anti Glare) so that the colours you see on your monitor are true.
