About to pull the trigger on a PB

Im about to buy a 12 inch powerbook and make the switch. I figure this will last me for a while for my purposes and I can see if I need to upgrade to the new technology in a year or two. Any last minute advice or anything else?

The G4 PowerBook is a great computer and the PPC architecture will be supported for many years to come. If you need it now, get it now. Just remember to get some RAM! 😀
 
3rd party RAM

I was thinking about getting it stock 512 MB and then getting a gig of 3rd party RAM. It should work just as well as the apple ram right? ( not to mention being half as expensive)
 
yes it will work just as well, make sure its supported, and get it from crucial.com if you can.

I have a 12" pb and it is nice, its 1ghz G4, 512 ram, and its not exactly a speed demon.

As long as you don't need anything too intense it should be fine. I'm going to a mbp when merom hits shelves in august
 
I would suggest an alternative to crucial.

CanadaRAM recommended this to me and it has been great RAM and they have great service from what i hear and it is guaranteed to work in your Powerbook (I just got a new 12" and I LOVE IT). www.datamem.com

I also have two 1GB sticks from Data Memory Systems in my PB.
 
First post on my new PB

So far the Powerbook has been great. OSx will take a little bit of time to learn. I went to datamem.com and they list two different types of memory modules for the PB 12 inch 1.5 GHZ. What is the difference between (M9690LL/A) and (M9691LL/A). Thanks. Also, does iWork come already installed on the laptop or do I need to use the disc that came with my PB.

one last question

I have one more question. On the system monitor it says there is some memory that is inactive? It was something like over 100 MB of inactive system memory. Not much memory was free because I'm running the software update program. Thanks for your help everyone.
