I've been trying to find information about using an ipod touch for development. I've been playing with the sdk for some time, but haven't been able to test the apps with an ipod touch or iphone. so my question is.. If I update my (only) ipod touch to 3.0, can I still use said ipod for music, podcast and what ever else I usually use it for? Is it safe to do so? I know the 3.0 firmware is only a release candidate, but if say, I don't upgrade to it yet and keep 2.2, is it safe to use it both for my personal use and development?

Thanks

It is generally safe. As some who develops with only a touch, I also use it for personal use. Make sure you have everything backed up as much as possible as I have had to reset it a few times which could prove annoying. I honestly don't use the touch for personal use too much so it isn't a big deal.

That's been my experience.
