Do digitizers go bad???

My original touch screen cracked,
so I replaced the digitizer 3 months ago,
worked fine (for 3 months), but then
the new digitizer abruptly and completely stopped working!
(I was playing music at a friend's house and when i went to change the song, no touch! Hasn't responded to touch since)

Everything else seems fine (home button, lock button, volume).
I took the screen out, checked the data cable connection, restored the ipod, but the touch screen won't respond!

Any ideas????
Should I throw down and buy a (third)/new digitizer?

Got new digitizer today in the mail,

no help: still not working.

I guess I'll try removing the battery

and re-assembling.

yes they can and do go bad. especially if you bought it off of eBay or Amazon. they are not real apple parts on there and they go bad real quick. so either your replacement was bad also or you have another issue. maybe on the board itself.

yeah if the new one also isn't working, could be the connection or something else on the board itself. Or maybe by coincidence the connector of the replacement isn't seating properly on the board, check that out to. This can be a problem with non-gen digitizers.
