Absinthe jailbreak not working?

My iPad 1 is long in the tooth. It's functionality has diminished. I'm ready to experiment with jailbreaking to see how the other half lives. So I downloaded absinthe 2.04 from here. (I hope that's the right place)

So I double click on the absinthe app after opening the dmg file and ... nothing. My 2012 macbook pro does nothing. I've got the iPad connected and iTunes can see it, but absolutely nothing happens on my computer. Is this normal? What should happen? I've tried rebooting and redownloading the file but it still just sits there. Any advice?

Couple of reboots later, still no luck. Is there a trick to get Absinthe to do anything when you try to run it? Or am I missing something?

just go get yourself a new iPad.
