Absolute nightmare trying to use remote app

I am trying to control iTunes on my old MacBook pro using the remote app on my iPhone 12 mini.

I have read many support pages, watched tutorials, but simply cannot get anywhere at all.

The iPhone and the mac are both on the same wifi, both have bluetooth switched on, but I cannot see how to connect them.

Is there a simple way to control music on my mac using a remote? Don't care if it's my iPhone or not, I just want something that works!

Problem with that page is the MacBook Pro is ancient! Running El Capitan.

If the version of macOS isn’t in the drop down on that page, then I imagine the feature isn’t supported.

Gave up on the MacBook Pro, using my Mac Mini M2 Pro and it works perfectly.

🤔 Works with latest stuff. Curious if it would work on MBP if you used OCLP to update MBP to a later macOS. Either way, glad it’s working now!
