The only regret I have with the ATV 4 is the remote. I find the touch pad WAY too sensitive and hence, shakie navigation.

I've had "streaming" problems in the past with other ATVs. I've had them all. I'm finally running my hardwired (ethernet). My new home was wired for ethernet in just about every room, so I put a spare router in the media room. The only reason for the router is it allows me to connect both my TV and my ATV to ethernet. No more spooling via wifi for me. I think using video feed from ATV gives the worst spooling performance of any of my video feeds, Vudu, Amazon Video or Netflix.

FWIW, if you haven't already seen it, in Setup > Remotes and Devices, you can set Touch Surface Tracking to Fast, Medium, or Slow.

As soon as I got a case for my remote, almost all my issues were solved...

My only complaint about ATV is it is so much darker than my TV. Anytime I go to it the brightness drops by more than half. Tried adjusting brightness on TV and nothing helps. All other features work fine but the darker picture drives me crazy.

Are you sure you are not comparing the picture from 2 different inputs? On most TVs, each input is set independently, so you need to manually adjust color, contrast, etc. to your liking for HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, etc.....

Yes, I've tried both those things on multiple TVs and it still darkens. I've just given up and use it for what it is.
Thanks for the suggestions though!!!!

Maybe a bad HDMI cable? Or, simply a bad AppleTV unit? Really, your problem does not make any sense and is very likely a hardware issue.

I love my new unit. I made the leap from the ATV3 when I got a new 65" Samsung after my older Hitachi bit the dust after 12 years. The ATV3 looked really good on the new TV but what sold me on upgrading, even knowing that there was no 4K, was the Sling TV app. It saved me from having to go from the iPad to the ATV.

Is the ATV4 perfect? Hardly, but it is a decent unit and the interface isn't bad. I use the Smart TV Netflix, Hulu and YouTube, but everything else goes through ATV. Do I see a difference in the picture quality? If I sit and go back and forth and compare, yes, but when I'm watching a show, no. It's crystal clear in my mind when I'm watching HBO or ESPN or what have you. Keep in mind that I'm coming from an ATV3 on a 51" projection screen to a 65" curved screen and ATV4. It's all in perspective and my viewing pleasure is immensely pleased right now, 4K or not. I know that ATV will eventually go 4K and that will only make it better.

I know, I don't get it either. Just learned to live with it but I admit I don't use it as much as I would if this was not a problem. All the other features are great though..

I'd take it back...or at least try a different AppleTV. Shame to waste $150+ on something that works so poorly for you.

I would take it back.

I have bought three ATV 4's and used/seen two others at a friends house and, the PQ is definitely not any darker than other inputs that are being used.

Please do. Be nice to see a comparison to ATV use since most everything else online is Xbox vs Playstation.

If I wasn't so deep in Playstation's eco system with games, trophies, friends, peripherals etc etc I definitely would be getting an Xbox One S. Then again I'd probably be waiting for the Scorpio so its kind of a moot point.

After a full week of use, Xbox One S is winning. By that I mean it's the start box and it usually stays there when I turn on the system. The Directv integration is a really nice touch. Picked up some 4K discs and one came with a 4K UV copy. Picture quality difference between ATV and Vudu HDX is indistinguishable, sans the 4K which crushes ATV and Vudu. The 4K disc slaughterers them all. Audio is a different matter where Vudu on the Xbox rocks the house, the dynamic range is simply superior.

Latest update finally resolved random stuttering. Why it took this long for Apple to finally resolve this must have been a difficult issue to pin down. Or simply they just rush ATV4 to market and not have a solid OS for release. At least it's finally fixed. Let's see if they screw it up again on another update.

Now if they'd just fix the dynamic range issue.

We're going forward with the UV environment. It's just far more open. For titles we really want, we've decided we would simply buy the iTunes version in addition to the BD we are buying anyway that typically has the UV copy. This way we can still use the ATVs upstairs for viewing and HomeKit. Ideally, we'd get a UV/Vudu app on ATV or Apple would kiss and make up with the UV alliance. 4K is just ridiculous by the way, and it's not even really the resolution. The color and blacks are just phoenominal.

Yeah, no AC3 passthrough. Selecting best changes it to PCM and my ONKYO will only trigger passthrough, and no DD7.1 processing. I have a 7.1 system set up and two speakers are dead silent when using passthrough. I finally left ATV4 to DD5.1 setting to be able to get my ONKYO to do DDEX or DD7.1 processing, but there is a loss of dynamic punch doing that. ATV3 did it perfectly and allowed by ONKYO to processes it anyway I wished.

My issues relate only to the usability of the device. It it absolute crap. The remote is a major PITA, the interface is ridiculous and I seem to spend my time unplugging it to get it to restart which requires that I re-enter my password. Is Apple completely unaware of devices like Roku?

That sounds nothing like the experience I've had with mine.

Seriously, you can not honestly say that Roku has a better interface. That is laughable
