This post pertains to the AC ADAPTER which is HARDWARE of the POWERBOOK.

recently, the 2 prong connector that fits onto the ac adapter has been very difficult to get on and off. the other connector that has the ac cord with 3 prongs on the end of it can slide on and off of the ac adapter without any problem. it is the 2 prong connector that is giving me trouble.

i called apple and explained the problem. after getting put on hold for 11 minutes, the guy comes back and starts talking about sending me another one. THEN, he says it will only cost 10 dollars. i tell him, no that is unacceptable. i stressed that the piece is defective and needs to be replaced under warranty. he states "due to the engineering of our ac adapters and connector, from our general expierence, it is due to the customer removing the connectors the wrong way." i am thinking...ok, you wanna play like that?

i tell him "ok, here's my defense to that statement. if apple already knows about this, why have you not included detailed information on HOW to remove the connectors from the ac adapter?" Silence......then....."um, i agree with you on that sir. would you like me to get you over to a product specialist so you can take it up with them?"

haha...what a joke. so yeah, i know i am right, and i am rather ticked off that apple would want me to pay 10 bucks for a stupid little connector that costs them 10 cents. i guess they are trying to prove that even for piddily crap like this, if they feel it's the customer's fault, the customer will pay.

    strike 1 for apple.

so, has anyone else had this problem with the 2 prong connector? like i said, the connector with the 3 prong cord can slide on and off without any problems whatsoever. it is the 2 prong connector that is being stubborn.

Try using the old YoYo adaptors I'm on my 3rd one in 4 years. At around £100 a time to replace, I am overly unimpressed.

On the plus side, the new one seems a lot better (the older ones had an INHERENT design fault that they would overheat and a fuse INSIDE the moulded plastic - that you cannot get open without breaking - would go, rendering them useless!)

James, that makes me feel somewhat better... =)

I just got off the phone with Apple and they ended up saying they will send me out the part free of charge. cool.

Apple AC Adapters seem to be trying to be too innovative, and while having convenient features, those could also cause problems. I've haven't had too many issues, but I've known a lot of people that have. Your best bet is to try and have them just ship you out a whole new ac adapter set and ship your old one back.
