There NEEDS to be a MacRumors Guide article about this. There is an Intel compatible AC3 component for QuickTime which works quite nicely here: http://n.ethz.ch/student/naegelic/ac3/index.php I wasn't aware that AC-3 was broken on VLC for MacIntel.
