Accept iTunes gift parental account

i want to gift iTunes things to an iTunes account under parental control. there is not device as such for this sub account so how can these be redeemed? Can the parental account accept the gift for the sub account or does the sub account need to sign in to iTunes somewhere to accept? I ask because when gifting previously I've had to accept in iTunes
