Hi,

I just clean installed 10.8 on a new SSD in my Mac Pro 3,1 and was planning on leaving my old HD for data. This HD still has 10.6.8 installed on it. However, even though I can still see the drive in system profiler, it will not allow me to mount the drive and access the files.

How do I access my old files without migrating them over to my new SSD, and just use my old boot drive as a slave? Id like to leave 10.6.8 on it if I can.

Thanks!

To answer my own issue, after some research I will answer this if anyone finds this on google.

After I installed mountain lion, I initially created a fresh account. I later used migration assistant to transfer over my old account, creating a second account. This subsequently caused issues with permission and ability to access the files on my old account.

I started fresh and migrated over from the start and all is working.
