I copied a lot of audio samples into my mac hd/library/audio/apple loops/apple folder which also has folders for garageband and soundtrack pro.
I can access these fine from soundtrack pro browser but I can't figure out how to access them when I'm in Garageband.
Can anyone please advise on how to browse these new loops in Garageband?
Thanks for any advice.

Try this:
You install loops by opening Garageband and dragging the loop (or folder of loops) onto the loop browser window of Garageband. Garageband will then add the loops to your library. I'm not sure what type of loops you are trying to install, but if it's a standard .wav sound file (not a loop) you can drag and drop them into Garageband's timeline where they will appear as any other real instrument track. Once you've done that you can then convert it into a bonafide Apple loop if it works as a repeatable loop. Just go to the edit menu and select "add to loop library" fill in the loop info and click create.
