I have a completely defunct 2008 Macbook. It won't boot up, and I haven't used it in years. I am trying to retrieve my old files from it. When I fire up the HD in an external caddy on Ubuntu, I can access my user folder, but all the folders inside are password protected. I have tried every potential password I can think of with no success. Unfortunately since the Mac is not working I cannot reset the password via any of the usual approaches. Any ideas what I can do?
