Accessing Photo/Movie on iMac with iPad?

Hi
I need a new computer. Either an iMac or a Mac book pro. Something with enough memory to store all of my photos and home movies.

If I go iMac could I access the Photos and Movie apps with an iPad? Would it need to be an iPad Pro?

I do have the cloud but am wondering if there might be a more "direct" option.

Should iMovie and photos be both free on Mac OS X?
Movie and photos app are both preinstalled on larger capacity iPhone for sure though.

Having the apps on the iPad would be a great start but all the pics/movies would need to be on the mac. I was wondering about storing them all on the imac then accessing my them using an iPad. Sort of a NAS thing I guess.
