I accidentally deleted the OS X partition via Bootcamp. I tried to recover OS X via Internet Recovery (CMD + R), but it keeps getting stuck at the Globe all the time. I also created a bootable USB with Catalina, but as soon as I select it during startup, the Mac switches back to Internet Recovery and hangs. I have tried a lot of things, so I would like to turn to you and would be happy if someone would help me.

The things I've tried:

  • Bootable USB created with Catalina = Does not run on Mac and switches to Internet Recovery
  • Mac connected to mobile data = hangs at the globe
  • Mac connected with 2.4ghz wifi and 8.8.8.8 DNS = Same problem
  • Vram Reset = Same problem
  • Different key combination tested (Shift+Option+Command+R) = Also switches directly to Internet Recovery and hangs.
As you can see, it always switches to Internet Recovery and hangs. How can I get OSX back to my iMac Pro?

Your iMac Pro has the T2 security chip. Did you boot into Recovery and run the Security Utility to enable booting from an external drive before "deleting OS X"?

No I didn't enabled this option. So it isn't possible to boot from an USB? Is there a option to install OS X with a thunderbolt or usb cable? I can use my macbook to connect to my iMac Pro.

No, the T2 Security chip will not allow booting from an external source. I recommend calling Apple Support to see their recommendations.

Here are some Apple links about T2:

Maybe somebody else has a recommendation.

Thank you for the clarification. I created a partition with windows bootcamp and with a Thunderbolt cable I made the partition bootable for OS X Catalina via my Macbook Pro. But even if I boot it, I get redirected to Internet Recovery, although this time it is internal source and not external source. Any suggestions?

Chalk this up to unintended consequences from the t2 chip, I reckon.
That's why THE FIRST THING I did with my 2018 Mini (also has t2) was to DISABLE IT, as much as I was able to using startup security.

Is there any way you can get to the recovery utilities menu, either through internet recovery or the recovery partition? Or... does it fail every time?

I'm wondering if this is one of those situations where you'll have to actually take it in and have Apple fix it for you...

No chance unfortunately to get to the recovery utilities menu or Internet recovery. I will talk to apple tomorrow and try my best
