Hello there

I did a huge mistake: I upgraded to iOS 18.1.1 without pay attention. I did it on 3 devices, I’m unforgivable. I should have paid more attention, they put iOS 18 on top of the screen page for Updates instead of the bottom.

I suppose there is nothing I can do to come back to iOS 17 And if you happen to read this message, just read before clicking!

I started to read about in the forum section and looks like there is a lot of hate this year with iOS 18: color of apps icons, don’t care, Photo app is the worst and some design changes make no sense.

I understand there is a learning curve but frankly I am puzzled at what is driving these changes.

Yeah I noticed this morning how you really have to dig your way to 17.7.2. It's sneaky. This is my first time holding out this long on an iOS upgrade, mainly due to having an 'older' device, general lack of interest in the features and lack of availability of those features.

After updating to 17.7.2 just now it for the second time today notifies me that "18.1.1 is now available". This apparently comes with a non-removable "1" notification icon on the Home Screen for the Settings app. This is a first for me 😤

You can still downgrade to iOS17. Just make a Backup, download the ipsm from ipsw.me and press ctrl+shift on pc or options+update on mac and choose the firmware file. OR just restore ist. Up to you.

You can only install IPSWs that are being digitally signed (approved by the server) and Apple is no longer signing iOS 17. They only sign old IPSWs for a short period after new software is released.

And they stopped releasing IPSWs after 17.7 it seems. There wasn't one for 17.7.1 and there is also none for 17.7.2.

Only for the devices that didn't support 18, what are just a few iPads:

I’ll be darned….youre right. Tim Sneaky strikes again!

You can set your device to iOS 17 public or developer beta and the 18 reminder will go away. I just tried it with an iPad.

I don't think there will be any betas for iOS 17 anymore. It's just to prevent showing the iOS 18 updates.
Oh I see what you mean, in Settings you enable Beta updates - iOS 17 Public Beta, now the notification is gone. Nice, thanks for clarifying!

I just got another reminder of iOS 18 20 minutes ago so I'm glad that's now over 😅

Where exactly in settings do you do this? Thanks

I still have my SE3 on 17.7.1 as I use it for work and don’t really need to upgrade it to iOS 18 yet. Though Apple pushed a notification prompting me to upgrade to iOS 18.1.1.

If that ruined your day, yesterday, how are you after a day with 18.2? It's not all that different.

"I started to read about in the forum section and looks like there is a lot of hate this year with iOS 18: color of apps icons, don’t care, Photo app is the worst and some design changes make no sense."

Yeah, that's not hate. That's mild indifference. Give it a few days.

Thanks. I just followed your advice. I plan, for different reasons, to stay at Ventura on mac and 17.7.1 on ios divices for quite some time. Be nice if your tip works. I also found the same setting on the mac, tried to set it to look for beta updates specifically for Ventura. Let's see if it replaces the Sequoia update notifications with Ventura beta notifications.

Made the jump to iOS 18.1.1 from 17.7.2 on my daily driver (13 pro) and sure, the UI is somewhat different and took a day of getting used to but overall its fine.
Things are more configurable, it doesn't seem to have had an impact in battery time. Its time to get used to it anyway and a new version of an OS is not the end of the world.

I was on Developer Beta 1 from Day 1 on both my phones (SE2+SE3) without any real problem. I downgraded precautionary to 17.7 when the final version of 18.1 was released. Now I am back on 18.2 Beta since a while and didn't regret it. But my use case is relatively small.

I only keep my iPads on the older version for now because I use them very rarerly.

I really can’t understand all of this complaining…
photo app isn’t great, but with a little work on the settings you can change it accordingly to your needs.
everything else it is just similar or better.

Apple is getting really annoying about this iOS 18.1.1.
I already got 17.7.2 on Tuesday.
They don’t need to remind me DAILY on this iOS 18.1.1 that I clearly do not want.
Cannot believe I had to resort to installing the profile to block the daily notification. 😩
Ridiculous.

When iOS 17.7.1 was released, it was at the top and you have to scroll down for iOS 18.0.1/18.1

Now they switched places, iOS 18.1.1 is at the top and you have to scroll down for iOS 17.7.2

The last IPSW was iOS 17.7 so downgrading is no longer an option since iOS 17.7.1 and iOS 17.7.2 are both OTA

iOS 17.6 betas 1-3 are still signed. From these we can update to 17.7.2. I did this on my 13PM a few hours ago. I just couldn't deal with the poor battery life on iOS 18.
