here is a lot of hate this year with iOS 18: color of apps icons, don’t care, Photo app is the worst and some design changes make no sense.
Well, I personally wouldn’t say the Photos App is the worst. It is different and many people are struggling to re-learn, or they simply don’t like it, and I respect that. But after using it a bit, and tuning it to my needs (eliminating many categories I don’t want/need) I am liking it honestly. And they are improving it and refining the experience for iOS 18.2

There are many details on iOS 18 that make it a compelling update from my point of view, aside from AI and icons. For example: the new customizable control centre, just that alone, is well worth the update. If 18.1.1 is behaving correctly in your phone with few bugs and good decent battery life, I would definitely pay attention to intrusive update prompts and not update until you’re willing to. You can disable “download updates automatically” if you think that will help you stay more in control.

iOS 17.6 betas 1-3 are still signed. From these we can update to 17.7.2. I did this on my 13PM a few hours ago. I just couldn't deal with the poor battery life on iOS 18.
Is there an iPadOS Version of that as well? I noticed my iPad Air 4 had gotten kind of slow on iPadOS 18 and I don't use any of its new features so I'd take speed over things I don't use.

Edit: Got it to work! Amazing. I am surprised they are still signing an old iOS 17 beta

On iPad 11Pro 2018 I also had to scroll down to reach iOS 17 update... as iOS 18 was warmly welcoming me to update on top. Silly.

Thanks for warning OP!

Wow! I didn't know that... I guess I can purchase anything older than iPhone 16 series then downgrade to iOS 17.6 beta while it is still available...

Where do I get the download for the 17.6 beta from, can a link be provided?

Thanks for letting me know. Got it downloaded and installed and the phone is updating to 17.7.2 even though the update was hidden at the bottom of the screen. Sneaky Timmy.
Just need the tvOS profile to block the badge notification once updates are finished.

The only problem I am going to have is my watch is on 11.1 so won’t pair with the phone but I am not bothered as I am not a fan of the watch so it won’t be a big miss. I have nice mechanical watches so it’s an excuse to get them on my wrist.

Now 17 is notifying me to update with icon and notification. Every day. Didnt do that before.

More and more I am disliking not having Phone, Safari, Mail, Messages, and Wallet on first page of Settings (maybe 1 or 2 others).

How can a phone’s phone settings not be on main Settings page??? Same with the texting app. The 2 basic forms of communication with a cellular phone are relegated to App page while the cellular data which also includes sim setting, Wi-Fi calling, calls on other devices, & so on is still in first group on first page.

At least put the Apps link at top of main settings page instead of at the bottom, but I would still prefer the above added to first page as well or an area for user’s choice.

THIS. I just had this same thought few hours ago. Native apps like FaceTime or Messages, or Phone, or Notes, Calendar, Reminders, Photos… would be easier to reach in the first page. I honestly preferred the Settings’ arrangement of previous iOS versions.

You still have a SEARCH function right on the first page.

That’s because you were accustomed to that setting. Over the time iPhone settings became more and more complex… you just can’t keep it like it originally was.
